Hey folks, a friend and i are both recen cdl grads, and we are concidering going to Werner and running teams after words.. i no everyone will say stay away, but do to certain reassons we are pretty much limited to just werner or swift, and after reading/talking to people we feel as tho Werner would be best for us.
So i want to no if driving teams is a good idea after we get out of trainning, i cant think of any reason why it wouldnt be.
*** i only want to hear about *~*~* TEAMING *~*~* and not about looking for other companies. i no, i understand, but we have deceided on Werner for at least a 6 months to a year *** just to get our feet wet.
so, any imput on TEAM driving, im all ears

Friends are great to team with. Cuz you can pull over and beat the snot out of them, any time.

As long as you guys are 100% on the same page. Go for it.

If either of you slack off on the other. The impending divorce will be ugly.

I know you said not to name any other company but did you and your friend look into PTL. I ask because they team you up in training and this will give you and your friend the chance to train together as a team.

no actualy iv never heard of that company before. ill look into them. however i keep running into a wall. and its my age, just turned 22 2 weeks ago, and i have speeding ticket from 11/05 for doing 85 in a 65..eek! and my buddy has a problem as well, wouldnt be right for me to talk about his issue with out him knowing im putting his 411 on the web.
its good, i didnt no him before going to school 6 months ago, and we become fairly decen friends while in school for the 6 months we were there. we no eachother fairly well, but enough were wed still have ish to talk about in the truck, which im sure we will run outa things to talk about soon. but i like the idea cause were both newbs and after we finish out trainnig we can both help eachoter out if its needed anywhere. and we have someone to talk too, or we can beat the snot out of eachother if we need to.
thanks for the replies, id like to hear a few more from some others.
it sounds to me it would be a good thing to do.

    What he said.^^^

I have a friend who is in training with them right now and he is having a good time. say they are keeping him moving and his partner is an okay guy. They met at the orientation and they live with in 20 minutes of each other. I knowm some companines are hard on tickects as well as age, so do your research and if Werner is the only company that would hire you then go for it. Good luck to you and your friend.

hey New_Driver thanks for the good luck, im in need of it, the way it looks Werner is just about the only company that will take me, they had to send my app to the hiring commitee to make sure my ticket was ok enough for them to hire me on, i figured if WENER wouldnt hire me, id be completly outa luck ha,
im going to call that place today see what they are all about,
we like werner cause they have a terminal up in Allentown which is about 45 mins away from where i live from here so its all good, still searching tho, i think iv looked at just about every trucking company that post on the internet, the newspaprs and so on, even stopped and talked to driver at different places, gave me a # to call, when i called they all said too young or no OTR experience. so i think if we go to werner and put in 6 months to a year we'll both be able to get something more local. but if we get through the 6 months to the year, and we really like how we did, then maybe we might stay..maybe part ways, who knows
    thanks again

team with friends is great. one thing please think about, with both of you newbies you really dont know enough to run with another newbie. I am not badtalking ya, i am also a rookie. I team with my husband though who is an exp driver. There is so much to know out on the road. We all learn everyday . But i honestly wouldnt suggest teaming with another rookie.

I gotta side with White Dove on this one. Its all fine and dandy to team up with a buddy but the fact that you are both inexperienced can be problematic.

I mean are you fellas aware of king pin laws? Did you learn to slide your trailer tandem all the way up prior to going into NYC? Have you learned how to slide a fifth wheel as well as a trailer tandem? Did you know driving in slick conditions you should not use you engine brake?
Do you know how to get off of an icy parking lot when your tires continue to spin? Do you know how to load a 53 foor trailer with heavy freight and still be able to comply with axle weights as well as bridge laws? Have you learned that the shortest distance between 2 points on a map is not necessarily the fastest, best route?

Are you seeing a pattern here? Many of these things are not taught at truckdriving school. The only way to learn these things is through a mentor. Someone who has already experienced these things and has either learned the hard way or been "schooled" by a veteran driver.

I am not trying to disparage your abilities nor your friends. If teaming is your desire I would really look for an older veteran that is willing to take you under his wing for a year or so. The education you receive will be very worthwhile in the long run.

Reading tips and information at sites like this is indeed very helpful but hands on is what you really need right now.
