Just like the title says, if you have a truck and trade it in can you transfer the fee you already paid on the first truck to the new one?
is 2290 tax transferable to another truck?

It's transferable. Need sales contract showing traded in.

You'll apply for a credit on the truck you sold, and get a new 2290 for the new one, so it's kind of like transferring. Anybody that tells you that the 2290 stays with the truck, not the owner, hasn't bought a truck in at least a decade. It was such a messed up system back then as the new owner could get charged for years of unpaid 2290's from the previous owner.
RedForeman and Rocky64 Thank this. -
Ok. This is my case.
I bought a truck. I applied for title. I need to go to Nashville to get base plates and cabcard. I asked previous owner for a copy of his 2290 receipt to use as my proof its been paid. He said he transfered it and wont assist me.
My only play on this is to go to the IRP office and beg the nice lady for a vin search and proof if it paid. Or pay it. But i need to wait for my new ein number to be in the irs system before i can pay it. That puts me behind 15 days. Im ready to run next week.
Advice? -
If you didn't have a truck(traded, sold)with a payed 2290 then you will have to pay a partial year. You have 60 days from trade/purchase to pay it. Though some states won't register until paid.

Forty got it right. There is no transfer. Just get yours and it will be prorated based on the in-service month.
If you fill out the EIN request on irs.gov, the number will be issued instantly. I don't see where you're expecting a wait.
You could get the EIN right now, then go to an IRS office and pay in person tomorrow, then go get your plate.Rocky64 Thanks this. -
You can pay the 2290 in person, should be protated so it won't be for a full year.

Like Red said EIN is instant. The previous owners 2290 is irrelevant to you, you need your own. This late in the tax year, it will be under $200. Once you have your EIN, you can file online for less than $10 using a 2290 service and have a valid paid in full 2290 emailed in less than 10 minutes. You could have all of that done tomorrow morning.
