I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on it.
The turbo and EGR valve was replaced 93k miles ago. It comes with a 2YR/200K warranty. It has the Ultrashift 13 speed, 24.5 wheels and 3.73 in the rear.
I'm a big fan of the 10 speed manual, but I'm considering the Ultrashift because I have some close friends running the Ultrashifts in 10 & 13 speed and love them. Except on ice roads.
I have never owned a Western Star and looking for feedback from actual owners or drivers who drove them for a good company.
Thanks for your time and have a nice weekend.

The 2007 series 60, they sound great, tons of personality with that VGT turbo. This is a pre-DPF model I assume being a 2007. I've always wanted a Western star, I'm surprised I don't see more on the road in over the road trucking fleets. It seems Mack and Western Star and few and far between. Who wants a Mack for an over the road truck? Not me.

Is this the one at JTS? The interior seems bare bones for a WS. I'd buy it.

Come hang out in the Northeast some time and you will see a whole lot of Western Stars on the road. Lots of us like them up here. Goes for Macks too, in the New England states. They aren't much of a fleet truck usually, except perhaps for regional or vocational outfits.
Edit: feedback. Well, I like mine
. No brand specific downsides as far as I'm concerned. Turning radius resembles a barge, but that's the case with most set forward axle setups, to some degree.

Hey Dryver, yep thats the one. I agree... the interior doesn't offer much.

Western stars are generally tough trucks. In the off road they are the "go to" truck. But they are built to be tough. Diamler Chrysler owns western star and freightliner and their company model is if you want a strong take a beating truck go w.s. If you want comfort and fuel efficiency go f.l.
The reason I say this is because the western stars ride like crap, anyone who says otherwise is full of it. Go test a new 4900 then teat a cascadia and you'll see a world of difference.
So it all depends what you want, I had a star picked out but switched to volvo xe after I test drove it because the star rode like my 99 ihc 9300, and the volvo was like a caddie. I save boat loads on fuel too so I'm happy with my decision.
Sorry for the deviation, if you bought it i doubt you would ever regret it and the automatics are a dream to drive. 07 was a good year for the star, no major issues.OW/OP Wolfman Thanks this. -
Built like a tank, better resale than any Crapcadia etc, easier to work on yourself, and the dealers, as a rule, treat you way better than any Fl dealer would.
Not seen the truck, but will try to find it.
I got my 2009 last June, it never sold so got a killer deal on it and full factory warranty. It rides worse than my Freightliner did (air ride front axle), but better than my 4 axle W900 did, and trucks before it. I wont say it rides like crap at all, just rougher than a light built truck. I took a friend of mine who owns a W9 to the parts store last week. His comment was "Rides better than mine", and that was bobtail. Guess I must be "full of it".....You can "feel" the heaviness of the parts, if that makes sense? Just feels better put together, using better parts, than any Vulva, Freightliner or International I have driven over the years.
All the dash is screwed together, not clipped together with plastic junk like the other trucks out there these days. the cabinets are wood, and are also screwed together. Overall a MUCH better built truck than anything else out there.
I highly doubt you would regret the purchase, so long as you aren't looking for fleet truck MPG. In my application, curvy plastic noses dont help one bit (oversize loads, 6 axle), so I went with what I wanted, after 23yrs of driving.

Interior is only missing the fridge, and the cabinets on the rear wall to my eye. Not been inside the smaller sleeper ones, so don't know if they are laid out different than my 82" sleeper or not, or if the bunk is just smaller?
Looks clean though, to me.

I wouldn't say your full of it seeing as you did say it doesn't ride as good as others. All depends what a guys looking for. I look for comfort and money, Noone can talk crap to me about my volvo. Especially now days. With new trucks volvo is king, if you have a cummins you better apply for bankruptcy now. Detroits are doing better than cummins but still very many issues.
When anyone says the resale b.s to me I laugh. I bought a 2014 and tge choice was between a star and my volvo. I saved 20k initial investment, and I use $100 a day less fuel than anyone who has done the run I am on. I work 20 day months. That's $2000 a month, $24,000 a year. When I buy a new truck the savings will have bought it for me while the star will sell for a extra $25,000... Doesn't add up to me.
But yours is not a new truck and in 07 western star (as they still do) made a great truck, the next one will be a star for offroad -
Mine is a 2009, made in 2008. It never sold, so it was brand new in effect. Full warranty, and so on. Price wise, it was a killer deal.
As I said in the other post, MPG would be no different in what I haul, and as proof of that, one of our other trucks is heading out here with the same load etc. His 2009 Cascadia got exactly the same MPG as my WS did......
