Bayou, the reason why i think they fear welding is that there is a awfull lot off welding that needs to be done to the axle itself.
    Most axles nowadays are tubes.
Get to much heat in the wrong places and that axle will break in time.
So your choice is between spending a lot on a new axle and welding the old axle with the risk off it breaking in time.
And that choice is yours.(not a easy choice)
All i will add is that i have seen axles break, allways at a weld.

A 3° option might be to call a few truckjunkyards, maybe they have a similiar axle.

Well found a axle and it's only $787 the bad is takes 4-6 weeks to get it. I also found a axle repair shop that will change just the spider plat for $1,025 and can do it next week. Time is money and could really use that trailer right now.

Looks like they shorted you a couple/few inches.....unless of course its hanging out on the other side.......either way not good

No problem here. Other than perhaps a 96" axle on a 102" traler.
