    I like the idea of starting out with NO debt. You can pay for a lot of repairs when you don't have big truck payments. And, once repairs have been made, you still don't have payments. Your leak could be a head gasket or cracked head. I would keep an eye on the oil to make sure you are not getting antifreeze in your oil. When you do an oil change, you may want to take an oil sample to make sure that nothing else is going on with the engine. The oil analysis can tell you if antifreeze is getting into your oil. Antifreeze can do serious damage to your bearings.

    Will do! I'm gonna try and make it through at least a few more months. Can have the cost for the rebuild by then. Start building my maintenance account. Wish L/S would let us have a spare truck we could sit to switch as needed. I have heard some guys like to turn over a truck every five years or so, for a write off at tax time.
    Was just wondering what other guys who,ve been successful have done. I only paid $13k for my truck, but with all the
    money I put in it since...I could've spent $30K on one with less miles. I've done better then some though.

    If you have a pre emission motor, Id keep it. I had pre emission motor, have had 2 emission motors since getting rid of pre emission……One has been very good, the other was VERY BAD!!!:biggrin_25525:

    I know some owners who purchase new trailers or tractors every few years just for the tax savings. I have one friend who keeps his older trucks but buys a new trailer shortly after the one he currently owns is paid off. He usually just stops running when he gets to the point of having to pay more in taxes. I have known a few people who do this. Rather than spending more on equipment that they don't want, they take more time off. They net about the same money, but have more time to do other things with their families. Once you have everything repaired on your older truck, you could just build your maintenance account and when you are ready, you will have enough money to pay cash. I have known one owner, in particular, who buys his trucks at auctions. He drives them until they die then scraps them and goes to another auction. He gets good buys at the auctions and has reliable transportation.

    You can have a spare truck with Landstar. If you need to put it into service due to the current truck dying, it is simple to change the base plate and paperwork to the spare truck. It would probably take no more than a day or so. I don't think Landstar would want you to have both on with them at the same time, unless you have an approved driver, due to the extra cost. But, although Landstar will advance the costs of base plates and permits, it is the BCO (owner operator) who ultimately pays for them. However, Landstar still pays for the insurance costs. You can address this to Landstar, but I think that they will tell you the same thing.

    I drove for Landstar for one year, then got off the truck to do other things; however, while there, I did very well. You make the choices on where you run, when you run, when on time off, all of it. If you have bills that are heavy, they have freight to run you hard, and again, this is your choice. Landstar isn't a scam, it is a freight company who hires owner/operators. The successful ones at this company would be successful anywhere. If you are not successful with Landstar, then you most likely need to be supervised heavily, probably on the job and off.

    Any team interested in Landstar, my thoughts, you can do very well, have great home time and get good support with tractor issues. They also have a very good business class that is very imformative on how to successfully manage your business expenses as well as your home expenses.

    Driver... I would greatly appreciate you sharing all of the knowledge you can with me about the "Lame Match", process. I dont want to have to experience not knowing what to do or having to be unprepared as to what to do, if I was to end up in a similar situation. I am not completely ready to buy my own truck just yet, but I am doing just as much research now beforehand, to be as successful as an O/O as I have in my short career as a Company Driver.

    I am o/o with Landstar we all are here With Landstar you have to own your own truck and you are your own dispatcher.You run as many miles as you want,you go where you want and go home when you want.I will retire here Love it here
