I appreciate everyone's replies. I'm more concerned about fuel efficiency than storage space. Is there that big of a difference between the condos vs flat/mid roofs?
thanks

midroof is better aero wise if flatbedding. mid roof with an air dam on top or condo is virtually the same aero wise.
Like was stated earlier by another poster, my mid roof has full wrap around airline style cabinets at the roof line. I have full clothes closet cabinet on right side, with a excellent multi shelf storage cabinet under it. On the left side, the same style multi shelf storage as the lower one on the right, up high against the ceiling with built in fridge/freezer below. Between is a two foot open area that has indented area to put loose items (or something larger like a T.V. or something, and drink holder. All cabinets with wood grain accented solid doors. Also, the lower cabinet on the right and the fridge cabinet on the left, both have slide out desks with storage.
Can't see any appreciable benefit to a condo unless a team operation.
The condos are not built with the airline style cabinets around the sleeper. Everything else basically the same. So storage is far better with a mid roof. The condos will usually have a window up high on each side, but my mid roof has windows on each side also that open. -
Maybe a little if your a skateboard, but if a mid roof with a Van and no dam is surely going the wrong way. A mid roof is a throw back to the 1970's when being aerodynamic wasnt an issue.

Not sure what you mean by "condo". Freighliners and Volvos are true condos IMO. The others.....KW T660, T600, T800, W900, International's are a little taller than a mid roof but with that stupid air dam on top. Might as well not be there for a flatbedder if you ask me
-
You're right. I should've specified. Im talking Freightliner Columbia.
Thanks -
I thought it was perfectly clear myself, as did all the others who replied.
Freightliner, International, Volvo, and even Western Star, make both types of roof. Mid roof and condo have been the names since I moved here in 1999, so not sure on the confusion myself.

Having a midroof to me is pointless. You will need some form of fairing ontop to make the truck more streamlined. Well if you look into those fairings it is a empty opening on the back giving a midroof the aerodynamics of a condo.
So a midroof needs a air dam to make it streamlined while a condo already has it.
So you buy a mid roof and loose the storage?
Or you get a condo and have the storage.
Your choice. -
What?
He is pulling a flatbed, so why does he need this fairing POS exactly?
Have you ever even been in a well equipped Mid Roof truck? There is MORE storage, not less, as those of us who have actually owned both have correctly stated. Lose the upper bunk, install full wrap around cabinets, more storage.
Please consider any future replies, as your (in)experience is blatantly showing in this one.

less inside area does not equate to more storage. A condo may have (dont know the exact numbers) 120 cubic feet of space interior, while a midroof has 90 cubic feet. You cant get more from a smaller area.
Yes if he is using a skate board or tanker, by all means go with a mid roof.
