Want some real advice? Find something to gain some real driving experience before you try pulling a tank trailer. It is tough enough learning to haul liquid without trying to learn to drive too. And like it or not for the first 3,4,5 years of your driving career you are learning new things everyday. I do not know of any tank outfits that will take a driver with less than a few years experience.

    Docpa7 and mje Thank this.

I already gave him a list of companies that will hire him. Superior Carriers is probably the best on the list, but they are also very picky about who they hire. A tanker company I worked for hired a new CDL grad and he made $60K his first 12 months solo. He went through the companys 1 week tanker school then ran with a trainer for about a month hauling liquid and dry bulk; after that he was as good as any of the experienced drivers.

This thread is crap from the start. TSA. GTFO! PSP approves everything "hazmat". TSA can't validate anything with licensing with PA :biggrin_2559:
TSA is a joke like DHS DEA. GTFO,:yes2557:

    PSP not TSA OP :biggrin_25518:

TSA made me take a PSA Test then sent the results to PSP before issuing my TWIC.

The PSA test is used primarily to screen for prostate cancer. A PSA test measures the amount of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in your blood.

    Shaggy,

I will assume that you do NOT have a HAZMAT endorsement on your CDL. PSP only is good for PA, not federal. TSA does the background checks and approval for both HAZMAT endorsements and the TWIC cards. As far as your opinion of them, that is your right, but the process that is followed in PA (and I assume everywhere else) is as follows:

    1. If you have your permit or CDL, you go to your local PENNDOT office with your birth certificate, and a check for like 87 bucks or so.
    2. You get a form that AUTHORIZES you to go for fingerprinting. I went to the UPS store in Ephrata (PA), and had them taken (via electronic reader). They are then electronically sent to the FBI, not PSP.
    3. FBI does a background investigation and forwards it to the TSA
    4. The TSA then takes the application from PENNDOT, the FBI background check, and does what ever they do with it.
    5. If approved, you get a courtesy letter from TSA, and PENNDOT is notified that you are approved for the issuance of the HAZMAT endorsement.

Before flaming me, I recommend that you go to this site: https://hazprints.tsa.dhs.gov/Public/

    It explains the process.

I understand what you are saying. However in the real world of tank operation, nobody just out of school is as good as any experienced driver. That's just the way it is.

I know, I know, someone will want to argue the point...But in reality, learning tank or any kind of specialized operation is difficult. Then load on learning to drive too, is just a nightmare waiting to happen.
