Funny thing is this guy can stay up 17 hours and not work, but when it comes to doing what he is paid to do. He can't keep his eyes open for 2 hours, but can make and produce a spectacular video that takes the blame off his not doing his job, and putting on the hard working dispatchers who went verrrrry easy on him. Luckily these folks don't last long in the industry and another you tube newbie will be hit with the reality. Trucking is for the getter doners not the bloggers. Ya digHotH2o, scottied67 and truckon Thank this. -

Open question to all you folks who are critical of Abe or his actions:
Are you suggesting that there is never a good reason to refuse to move the truck or that drivers should just do whatever they are told, no matter what???
Take this incident out of the discussion.
Do YOU take every load as assigned?
Do YOU drive or continue to drive when to do so is unsafe or illegal?
Have YOU ever felt coerced or threatened by your shipper/broker/dispatcher because you needed to sleep/shut down for safety reasons???
I bet I already know the answers.TractorTrailer and drvrtech77 Thank this. -
All I'm saying to those who can't see past the vindictiveness of the YOUTUBER. If you are sleepy pull over and get a nap. Obvious it wasn't the case. This is the case of some bearded dude who is mad he had to sit all day to get a load and to get them back. He would play the tired driver part. I, and I'm sure others have been pushed or coerced to do loads after the 11 or 14 hours of driving. Not after a 10 hour break. Now truly if you can't drive 400 miles after two 10 hour breaks. Trucking isn't for you, and maybe you need to get a sleep study done.
Giltner1, truckon, RedForeman and 2 others Thank this. -
But this type of coercion of drivers is standard operating procedure for the industry. You know it, you have been exposed to it. I think the point that needs to be driven home (no pun intended) is how prevalent this practice is. The FMSCA, lawmakers, LEO's and general public seem to believe that THE DRIVER is the one always breaking the rules, and they only want to PUNISH/RESTRICT/VILIFY THE DRIVER!!!
I think, truth be told, the companies are the bad guys 90% of the time!!!
That is what Abe was trying to show.Mev and drvrtech77 Thank this. -
You are tired after a long day. You expect to have a long day tomorrow, so you get your sleep. 8 hours maybe. Then you wake up and get ready for the day. Dispatch says to go 20 miles and take another 10 hour break. Now you have to figure out a way to get rest (aka sleep). But you can't. You just slept for 8 hours. So you lay around all day doing nothing. Then when your 10 is up. Its night time and you have to drive 400 some odd miles. An hour into it, you get sleepy. So get off and get a Red Bull and walk around for a bit. That worked for another hour. But you start to doze off again. Time to pull it over. You send a message that you are gonna get an hour or 2 rest. Dispatch calls and basically calls you a lazy driver because you couldn't sleep 16 hours in a 21 hour period. You make a video because you know when dispatch calls they are gonna tell you to drive sleepy (if I am correct, it is illegal). Now you got some arm chair trucker telling the world that these EEEEVIL YOUTUBE truckers are lazy and not real truck drivers cuz they ain't toting the company line.
I think I get it now....cellopudding, kbar909, Mev and 8 others Thank this. -
A lot of you guys would never make it pulling tankers as one day your running at night next your running during the day what happened to the good ole days where you put your big boy pants on and got the job done this guy wasn't even out of hours smh.
Dinomite Thanks this. -
I just erased erased a whole lot of what I was going to say. Guess we are not going to see thing eye to eye, and that's not a problem. I do want to ask you guys how the dispatcher should of handled the situation. Given the fact you are the dispatcher. Looking at his log book and he hasn't ran any miles in 24 hours and he gives you the I'm sleepy story. Now make sure you answer being the Night shift dispatcher who probably is blamed for tons of crap that they don't have the authority to do.
