    Howdy All,

Getting kinda frustrated, I have a Uniden PC 68 XL CB, sometime it works and then for no apparent reason it doesn't. It always powers up, the lights are always on when you turn it on, but sometimes it won't receive or transmit at other times it works great. Any ideas? Thanks for any advise you can give.

I'm sure you checked but did you make sure your coax connection is tight

Yes Sir, checked and rechecked the power supply plug, coax and mike connections, all clean, all tight.

I don't know what else might cause cut-outs..? What is weather doing? Didn't know this myself until a few years back in freezing fog/rain conditions. No problems on clear days right? :biggrin_25525:

Snow can do it too. That when ice, snow will provide ground-out the antenna mount to the anntenna. Did you ever look to see how little insulation space there is on most antenna setups? Almost less than an inch... Most only have a nylon washer and if anything connects the top and the bottom. Your grounded and can't transmit or receive...:biggrin_2552:

I used that liquid tape (looks like crap) to cover the bottom of my mount. Now, I can handle 6 inches of snow or most ice and I don't have any problems with reception anymore! (Except for alot of nonsense chatter that comes from too many radios and not enough sense...):biggrin_2551:

Don't have a clue what "Qualcomm" is, no the CB is not hooked up to the trucks radio speakers.

I live and do most of my winter driving on the wet side of Washington State, everything is WET, I'll check and make sure the little insulation washers on the antenna are in good shape, thanks for the tip.

Sounds more like bad solder joint inside the radio.

It could be a break in the mic cable.

    mike5511 Thanks this.

Thanks for the tips regarding a bad solder joint or mike cord. I can try a different mike and see if that solves the problem, yesterday the radio worked perfectly all day long, the day before nothing.
