So true about the slowest truck on the road being fastest at the truck stop. Whenever I am on the 287 north bound in Colorado I always seem to get stuck behind that prime skateboard doing 62 MPH on a two lane highway. Then when we enter a small town that opens up to four lanes I think he will ease off the fuel so I can safely pass, wrong! So many times they are doing 10 over the speed limit, which I won't risk doing, to make up for lost time.

I use to be in a 63 mph truck and never had to speed through towns or construction to "make up time". Once again it's all on the driver not planning correctly. If he was in a 165 mph truck he'd still be the same.

During the good weather months I usually go from Fort Worth up to the Seattle area and always take 287 up into Limon. I just wish Colorado would add longer passing lanes. I witnessed my first head on collision on that highway last summer between a 4-wheeler and a semi. I was about 50 yards back when I saw a small pickup truck move slowly from the southbound lane into the northbound lane. The trucker hit his brakes and lost most of his driver side front end. The trucker was okay unfortunately the pickup truck wasn't so lucky. I ran over to the wreck with 3 other truckers and it wasn't a pretty site. The passenger survived but apparently the driver was texting when he didn't see the curve coming.

Now I head into Albuquerque and work my way over to the devil's highway and cut through SLC.

I heard Cali has a no cellphone while driving law - do most states? In AZ we don't and it is getting really bad. For safety as well as efficiency, I'd sure like to see some kind of nationwide law.

In this case, at least it wasn't an innocent party that got wiped out - that is really tragic. I actually feel worse for the semi driver and the other truckers that ran over to help - these guys were great for attending the wreck - but what they saw will probably haunt them.

Since your from AZ I have a question. Every time I run the 10 there is always a bunch of AHP pulling over truckers between Casa Grande and Tucson. One day I saw at least 6 trucks pulled over and not just the old beat up ones. Does the AZ highway patrol have it out for truckers? Why don't they just screen us better at the weigh station just east of the CA/AZ Stateline?
