bill, you are correct. this group is followed closely by the " if I got paid more, I would do a better job" crowd of people.

either a guy works and does a good job or he doesn't have that work ethic. if a guy ever comes and tells ya that fire him on the spot.

do not confuse this with a guy who asks for a raise with proper reasons.

Regarding expanding fleet wise, I know sever fleet owners mainly from Eastern Europe, who have 30-100 trucks and make a very good living of it. They are based from Chicago. But they screwing drivers badly, take a deposit before they hire them. Drivers are cheating on logbooks badly to make a living. When csa score becomes too high, they just establish new mc and start all over again.

Every owner op makes great great money. Its just that some go in with high expectations and tell you not to do it because they didn't make a million yet.

Expansion, yes. I want to build a nice big shop and buy more tools!

Even though we are looking to expand, I can't fathom the thought of ordering more then one truck. You people saying you order 5-10 at a time have big cahonas. How do you feel safe ordering that many. Isn't it better to go 1 at a time and move on to the next one when you know that one will work out and start busy

The worst problem for me is they don't want to work. If you give them more money (safety bonuses, oversize bonuses, loaded v empty bonuses...not just a pay increase) they work less not more.

Kind of the mantra on here. More money less work.

That's the problem isn't it? I am turning down more loads than I accept but with the wrong driver all the business could go away. Not to mention the more trucks I have the lower my margins get.
