I'm out to buy another truck and was considering to buying a 06 387 peterbilt. It has a 475 cat with a 13 speed. I've never owned one of these trucks so I'm asking some of you truckers your opinion if you have had any good or bad experiences with these trucks. I do know they are a tank as far as the weight goes. I need a truck with room and would like to stick with a peterbilt. Spending long hours in these trucks I'm out for comfort now instead of the showy truck with loud pipes. Thanks for any info

    i wouldn't necessarily call it a tank.

i drove an 09, with isx. it had a drop axle. and still weight 500 pounds less then all the kw's i drove before that.

the bad thing about pete. is under the bunk bed. that compartment goes all the way through. leaving you no room for storage under the bed inside the cab. kw splits that compartment. it's designed so you have that room under the bed inside the cab.

other then that. i think it's a pretty close tie between pete and kw.

I'm very happy with mine!! I have the double bunks and I use that for my clothes and stuff and under the bottom bed is packed with all my tools and stuff. I love all the room.

IMO buying a 2004-2007 truck makes no sense, I'd seriously consider getting a pre egr engine if you don't need to run California... Other then that, sounds like a nice truck

as the years go by. the pre egr trucks are going to be fewer and fewer. and there's even less of those that have much life left. most up for sale are due for an overhaul. and are overpriced. might as well take that money and buy something newer with less miles.

I see them all the time, under 20k... I'd rather buy a truck for 20k and put 30k into a really good inframe then touch a newer truck... But that's just my take on it...

i'd rather just take that 50g and buy a newer truck.

that 20 you spend on a truck plus 30 for an inframe, you've still got a worn out drive train and all the other stuff that comes on a truck. and by the time you got that old worn out truck in brand new shape. peice by peice. you've paid for a new truck.

I like my 07 387 with c15. Very roomy and comfortable ride. If you put a divided under the bunk you can make a separate compartment for the tools. It does have a lot of blind spots compared to others and get about 6.5 pulling reefer.
