I have done that before in years past...You think like I do...
-
Ok , I have been in trucking for 26 years , You want to know the differance ? here goes !
I want even start to compare to differance when fuel was .30 to .35 cent per gallon . You young hands would have a heart attack to what we use to make back then . I will use the modern figures
Fuel 5 years ago , 2.299 which cost me $230 for one tank . The rate was $1600 to Phili .
Fuel 2 years ago , 2.759 cost me $275 one tank rate was $1600. to Phili .
Fuel today 4.079 cost me $408 one tank , rate is $1780 Phili . We had the rate up to $2450 to Phili . then the freight haulers came in and cut the rate for a back haul back down to $1780
2 years ago it cost me $740 one way for fuel out of $1600 , Now it cost me $1100.00 one way for $1780 . Now that is a differance of $360 dollars with $180 increase So now that is $180 dollars one way that it is coming out of my pocket .
Thats not even mentioning the back haul , Which the freight hauler already control , Anymore the back haul is going to cover fuel and expense . Then you have tires , went for $290 # to $400 for good ones, insurance from $9000 a year to $14,000 , meals from $5-6 to $9-$10 , showers for $3 to $6 now if everything else went this way we would be making $3200 to Phili , and $1800 - $2000 on the back haul ... But with o/o it dont work that way .
2. The average gross rate per mile 2 years ago was $1.39 per mile today it is $1.54 per mile before overhead !!!!! when it should be $2.50 - $3.00 the only ones getting rich is the Shipper, Broker and reciever !
I hear all these guys saying they are making more money than they ever have , Thats funny because I see more lossing their trucks then keeping them .
Mine is paid for , It WILL NOT leave the yard until the rates go up or the fuel comes down . With the guys that want to run and lose money , I give them a few months and they will be out of bussiness . My truck will still have the new tires , good strong engine and will be ready to go when they are broke !!!
You good buddies just keep on truckin !!! and make to oil companies rich . -
WLtrucking, why do you keep hauling the load to Philly? Not trying to be confrontational in anyway, just trying to understand.
-
$10 at TA, $9 at Sapp Brothers. Its a ripoff. -
No problem , I just used Phili for example , It dont matter where you go it is the same figures , The miles will increase and so will the rate but then the extra miles cost extra fuel , I comes out to the same .
Trust me , I calulate and figure my profit and exspense.. I run up the east coast with produce .. No matter where I haul it works out the same .
If you could increase the rates the way the oil companies increase the fuel we would be RICH ... the fuel the goes up the rate stays the same .
Then to add insult to injury , Our wonderful government is bringing in Immigrants , getting them started in trucking ,( especially produce ) with my tax dollars with a 4 year interest free loan , they then in turn come around and cut our rates and take the loads .. Now this is MY government , With MY tax dollars putting My brothers out of bussiness , with drivers that arent even citizens !!!!
So you see it isnt just the fuel that hurts us , there is alot of things that play into it .. OH , forgot to mention the HUT ( highway use tax ) we pay a annuall fee of $550 on top of the high fuel for the privilege to use the highways , So if we dont buy fuel in a state we travel threw , we still pay the tax !!! ..
I could go on , But I have to go to church ..
HAVE A NICE DAY !!! -

Here is one idea.
What we need to do is not pick up loads from Shippers and brokers that do not pay an honest rate and do not pay a fsc. By doing that we will keep our good customers happy, and put the low lifes out of business.
I have been doing this for some time now. I WILL NOT HAUL CHEEP LOADS. Their stuff can sit on the docks till the cows come home for all I care. If you are getting a 28% fsc you should be making money on it. I am. Just slow down 5 MPH. Do the math. But if you haul broker loads for less than a Dollar a mile and get no fsc you are not going to stay in business much longer. That is a fact. And to the Man that started this thread if your customers will not pay you a fair fsc screw them, they won't get anyone else to go broke hauling their crap. And if they do they are out of there minds to. If I have hurt anyones feelings I am not sorry WAKE UP. Jake, Owner Operator. -
I am not a truck driver. I am the co-owner of our truck. I love the truck, but I love the driver more and have for 41 years. I do not want to get one of those phone calls or visits from the CHP telling me that he has been injured or killed due to mob violence...
I understand what is going on with fuel prices because I have to write the checks. I hear the fear in my husband's voice when he calls to tell me that he needs some funds for a repair when he knows that our resources are low. Thank heaven for the maintenance account! He has done all that he can to reduce expenses on the road. I am doing all that I can at home to reduce costs at home, too. I am sure that all of you have been doing the same things. Trucking is our livelihood!
My husband is on his way home, but not because of a strike. He has already been out for over four weeks and it is time for him to come home. He has prescriptions to fill and things need to be done here to keep our home in good condition.
I want him to come home safely!
Please do not allowthis to escalate into violence. It didn't work for the teamsters and it won't work for the trucking industry.
Yes, we can unite and fight for what is right. No, we cannot demand that life become fair.
If you all do nothing else, write letters to your elected officials and demand that they put pressure on the President to step in and do something that will help the trucking industry before the small operators, like you and I, have to file for bankruptcy.
