In the past, when a projected load was iffy I used a couple different websites or google searches to find car dimensions (length, width, height, weight). I know that larger shippers have some type of desktop database or one site works for everything resource. I realize cars are not squares so experience over time is always best, but are any of you using such a database and could you share where I could find it? Thanks again. :)

Here is a link that lets you break down a Ford, Lincoln, or Mercury VIN. https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/vin-decoder/

Open it and go down to where it says VIN guides PDF Format and open the year you need. Comes in handy when you need to know if a Ford truck is gas or diesel, Dual rear wheel, etc. 5th 6th and 7th character of a Ford VIN is the type of truck. 8th is the engine. And if you are moving a vehicle say an E-350 that says "cutaway", if it is a used unit you can bet there is some type of body on it.

Cool, I'll save the link. It's not exactly what I was asking for but you are right! ...sometimes we get vehicles dispatched that even the owners dont know if they are diesel or long bed or what not... things that can make huge differences to us. So thank you. I'll definitely save the link. :)

Just keep in mind, that is only a guide, and doesn't include the guy that thinks his SUV can double as a moving van, or the pimpdaddy that has 22 DUBS on his Escalade, or the redneck with the Dodge 2500 CC short bed that now has a 10" lift, 38" tires, a winch bumper on the front and an 18" step bumper on the rear.

FYI, just so you are aware. The VIN is equivalent to a birth certificate for a vehicle. All you need is the full VIN and you are provided with all you need to know. These dealers and carhaulers that deal with less than last 8 are begging for a mishaul.

True to a point, in that a VIN is unique, but not all info is in the vin. A prime example is WB. F150 Crews come with two bed lengths, and there is no differentiation in the VIN.
