My first two trucks were 10sp so Im new with 18sp.. need some advise from some of you pro drivers...
Alright, so it is my first time driving a truck with splitters.
I want to know what is the right way of using the splitters...the way I've been driving it is like this, for example.....upshifting, from 7th gear H to 8th gear L , I would pull the shifter out of the 7th gear to neutral pull the splitter back to L and put it in the 8th gear, no cluch were used... and it shifts very smooth. But then now, I was reading the 18sp Manual and it tells me to pre-select the splitter before changing gears meaning I should put the splitter from H to L position while in gear before putting it to neutral and to my next gear.... Im confused.. help..

Yeah split before you shift. No clutch needed.

you don't need to clutch or go to neautral to go from lo to hi or hi to lo. You only need to let up on the go pedal a bit and it will shift once there is slack in the drivetrain. You only need to move the stick when you have to go from one physical gear to another

I know medicineman, my question is in the upshifting part... for example
1st gear H going to 2nd gear L ....... when is the best time to switch the side splitters from H back to L? because I've been doing it while in neutral

Word. I liked to shift instead of lifting. Sometimes it would make a nasty grind if I didn't. Not saying either way is right or wrong. Just preferance to me.

You can select it back into low as long as you don't let off the throttle if I remember correctly. MM?

do it before you go to neautral like mentioned before. Always preselect.

when your tranny isn't in as good shape as it is now it will grind if you select it when you are in neutral.

    379. I never had that problem with my 18's but my 13 grinds like all hell if I lift and don't get it just right. I think it also has more to do with the condition of the trans. what can I say, I'm lazy :biggrin_25515:
