Anxiety is part of life. That's what makes you an adult. How about a pill that keeps you a kid. Gee whiz!!

I understand what you're trying to say, dinomite, I really do, but you have to understand that people with anxiety disorders and depression usually understand that "it's life," but the disorder prevents them from getting on with their life in a "regular" fashion.

I'm sorry if I seem easily offended, but depression-shaming makes me upset.

It's not even the depression thing alone. Hell, lots of people are depressed, down, whatever. It's the alcoholism. When you admit that you have an issue drinking to your employer, especially in this industry, you're opening yourself up to a problem.

Please understand what I'm sayin. People with anxiety and depression disorders that need to be medicated should not be behind the wheel of a truck or any vehicle for that matter.

I'm like you: I'll pass up a chance for something if I see someone else needs it worse than I do. I even do that at work: if there's a choice between me and another for a promotion, and I think the other deserves it more, I'll step back and let him have it.

I'm a firm believer in "pay it forward", and I believe in helping people do better, even those that have screwed up in their past. Everyone deserves a chance, and a second chance. Sometimes even a third, if circumstances dictate.

I agree with you there. It just feels like some people think that someone with depression needs to just buck up and get on with life, and the point is, when you have depression, you just CAN'T without following a treatment program that includes medication.

I agree with him, dinomite: shaming doesn't nothing to help anyone.

No matter what you say or think, you are not perfect, and never will be. I can bet that your worst decisions were made under some kind of duress that brought out the worst in you, and it was others that paid the price for your lashing out.

Those that recognize their issues, and deal with them, are IMHO more trustworthy than those who will vehemently deny they have any problems at all, and shout down any one who dares to disagree.

"Once an addict, always an addict": the central precept in AA.

Anyone with the guts to admit it, is a pretty good person to start with, simply because they admitted it. And if they deal with it properly and consistently, everyone benefits, including employers.

Put yourself in the place of a trucking company safety manager for a moment and I came to you and said I have a drinking problem. As much as your statement could be true, it could also scare away a potential employer.
