They are put there in the case of an accident or possibly a hard breaking incident. Like the cams that are front facing, it is supposed to record what the driver was doing during the event and capture that. Whether it runs on a loop I don't know. It supposedly, they say, does not record you just anytime it wants, or catching you running around in your scivvy's.
But who knows for sure. I was reading somewhere where they were thinking of putting monitors on the computers in classes in order to monitor a childs interest and action in a class. Don't know what they would plan to do if the kid faltered and hated the subject, zap them with an electrical charge.

Thank you Triad this is what I was wanting to see. A few other people gave me some insight, but I'm old and can't remember which thread it was on. So now I can just to one place for all my questions and to help those who are about to get them put in their truck.
I can't believe they said something about the racial slur, but I guess since we don't know who in the 3rd party is reviewing the video. We should be a little more professional, but I'm sure slip up's happen.
They have tested this thing for almost a year at my company so I figured they would put them in all the trucks so I always acted like I had one anyway. I will say I don't hear the rumble strips as much, and I do pay more attention. I think it's a win win. I doubt if most people would drive like a maniac if they had a camera facing them. I wanted to pass some people in the snow this morning, but the lane was covered, and I could just hear safety saying. You was in that big of a hurry to do something so stupid. So I just waited for a large car passed me and had some tracks to follow to get around them. -
Safety Departments are looking for another way to blame the driver with these cams. If you have an accident or critical event they can use the video. If they put one in your truck just put a sign right by your head saying "the reason I am not paying attention is I am looking for a new job". I can understand the cams that face forward, the ones that face the driver are just for the pervs in Safety or dispatch to micro manage drivers.

Most accidents you get canned anyway. Some of these accidents because you have a video will show it was un preventable. If a trucks swings in front of you then Jack knifes. The fist thing people are going to say. You should of had proper following distance. But the video will show you had no control of the situation and could possibly save your job.
I've been driving awhile, and I know most folks don't like to work so safety departments trying to micromanage drivers is foolish. I would think if you put the cams in. Less calls about accidents. You go home without the phone ringing. They have hard breaking events that already register on the qualcom without the cam. They don't need a camera to make that call, but when they see the idiots around you and why you are hard braking. That's one less phone call they have to make.tucker Thanks this. -

I don't know my hat is over it
But I'm sure it's green.

Read these two statements, if it is able send the video previous to it being triggered then it's recording you at all times, whether it's sending data or not. I'm sorry but this device is an invasion of privacy, yes it's company equipment but it's also my home more often than my house and no I'll pass on having some nosy bureaucrat having the ability to peak inside my home in anyway shape or form

This is my first post here. Hello, hail, live long and prosper! May you see 10 miles per gallon at 98,000 lbs at 70 mph! Salutations, and all that!
I find this pretty interesting, and have never heard about it. On one hand, I'm a bit touchy about privacy issues, so this kind of gets my hackles up. On the other, having been a QC guy in a former life, I'm trying to understand it from the company's point of view. Does this save them on their insurance? Why did they come up with this as a solution to . . . what problem? I can kind of see their point, but it still kind of irritates me. Even though you have nothing to hide if you're doing things right, why can't anyone take your word for something and just apply a bit of trust?
I'm eager to hear what people think of this.blairandgretchen and The Challenger Thank this. -
I would post my experience with Drive Cam, but it would kind of mirror Triad's reply.
I figure if a company wants to install a drive cam in my truck, that's fine. It saves me from having to keep my $200 GoPro in the truck to prove I was doing what I could to drive safe.Dinomite, moneyburner and tucker Thank this. -
There is nothing funnier then hearing people. I mean other drivers say just take the drivers word for it. Here's a nice video.
Yep truck driver blames an imaginary truck.
