We have a Cat MBN bridge engine that the oil pressure drops as the manifold pressure comes up. As the manifold pressure starts dropping the oil pressure comes back to normal. Anyone else seen this happen before?

How low does it go? And how many miles does the engine have on it?
-
700000+ The driver said down to 30 psi at full boost but came up to normal when he backs out of the throttle. All at a steady RPM. I drove it today and iI could get it to drop 10 psi oil pressure but not 40.

I'd be getting an oil sample done. Gas engines van do that when clearances get loose. My 2ws started doing that about 6 months before it spun a rod bearing. Mine had close to a million miles on it. I was thinking about changing the bearings in it but was convinced that pressure drop under boost was not a big deal. Don't know who was right but a bearing roll would have been a lot cheaper and simply than an engine swap. Hopefully yours is something simple and cheap.

Lower bearings for sure, 8-10 psi drop id b pulling pan down and doin em along with oil pump. Id bet ur close to one lettin go. lower end builds pressure, slop shows up pressure drops like that under load.

Kick the fan on before the pull and see what it does.
What does the water temp and oil temp read?
Mine will do this too on certain roads but the oil temp also gets close to 200° if I don't kick on the fan.
Your oil cooler maybe plugging up. -
It's been overhauled once because I think about 300,000 due to a broken water pump and getting it hot. Its up over a million now. I can see what your saying more boost increases clearance on the bottom rod bearing and top of main bearings and no boost the clearance equalizes. Am I thinking right? I'll pull its file tomarrow. Too many trucks and an old brain. What a combo!
Not sure about oil temp cause I see the sender is unhooked. I know when it's warm out these MBN's will run up to 220 Deg. We have 5 of these things,4 Acerts and the rest are 2WS and 6NZ's. -
So what's an acceptable oil pressure drop when under full throttle? Mine will lose about 2-4lbs, going from 70 to about 66-67 around 1,400 rpm-cruising speed.
-
That is normal. A 10 psi drop would have me concerned and looking at bearings

Does anyone have an estimation on what a bearing roll and oil pump will cost from a cat house? I have a 6NZ with approx. 550k on it and drops 4-6 psi under these conditions.
