If your experience is recent and your record is clear, you could work virtually anywhere you want and it would be a matter of personal preference. However, there is a WORLD of difference between otherwise similar carriers in how the job experience pans out, long term so choose wisely but you'll want to avoid "regional" fleets or anything that could resemble regional hauling.
You probably have some family somewhere and make sure you work somewhere these can be seen without any big dispatch hassle because at some point you will want to actually visit with someone other then another truck driver. (Out of their normal operating area)

Most companies you'd want to drive for will probably require a vehicle inspection every 30 days or so by their own shop. It would be nice if we could count on heavy equipment needing no maintenance for 6 months at a crack.

You are running from life. Trouble is, it will never stop, once you start. I know someone that did that, and last I heard, is living in the hills in the SW. Did not even attend one of his child's wedding.

Seems presumptuous. You might not yet be of the age where all you really want from life is some solitude, and peace and quiet.

You mean we're not all gigantic crybabies that want to be home every night? You mean it's possible that some of us actually like running the road? You are implying that some if us are actually doing what we want to do and are content?
Are you saying that there's such a thing as a happy driver? I've always heard of sightings of such a creature, but I always grouped them in with the LochNess, Bigfoot and the yetis. Guess I was mistaken. -
that crossed my mind but he wants to truck.in reality, his leaving everything behind and driving off into the sunset means that the ex-wife wins.i'd hang around and do all her friends and cousins and neighbors. stay busy by roaming around town and then when burned out,truck-

I am not running from anything. I have always wanted to run the road but have never been able to do so. Now I am in a position where hopefully I could stick my stuff in storage and have very few bills, live off half my income, see the country and enjoy myself. After 2 years I should have a few dollars to start my life again in some way.
Just looking for a company that could keep me out long time thats all. -
Running is an easy habit to get into and a hard one to break. If your not running from something then your running to something. Neither can ever be escaped or caught. Running the road is just as addictive as a drug habit. It can be a real love/hate relationship and next thing you know a decade has slipped into the rearview.
It sounds like you got a good plan and your head about you so you should be fine. I'd try to avoid the megas and the mom and pops and go with a medium. Wish I knew of one that could take two weeks straight of cold iron but I personally don't. I'm sure there's one out there that is a good fit. Just keep on looking. You'll find what your looking for. Most likely you'll find the right one when you aren't looking. Life seems to work like that on many levels.
Best of luck and be careful. It ain't over til it's over.
