I used to work for GTI and it wouldn't surprise me to hear this. REMEMBER an old Salt Lake City, #### Simon trucking? They had the skunk logo known as "Stinky" (Aka" "stinky ####" or "####'s skunk works")...
...Well I had to drive one of those beautties, after all, GTI bought about 100 of them around 2002... Yes indeed!! Shiney black and the A/C could just barely keep up with the triple-digit heat around the I-10 area! ...that was my first paddle shifter, which incidently, was notorious for locking-up in a tall gear, usually occuring in places like Santa Fe Springs on a Friday afternoon, requiring tow truck service to get me out of the intersection...
GTI has some deep pockets! They are invested into a lot of companies. But, they do employ a lot of folks on the West Coast and are pretty straight about it.Last edited: Mar 16, 2014

Gordon was acquired by heartland end of last year hence the new logo on the side.

Gordon was aquired by Heartland a couple years ago and the Gordon name is slowly being phased out. By the end of this year the Gordon name will be gone entirely. I'm a current Gordon OTR driver based on the west coast and most of the seasoned Gordon drivers are leaving in droves, as are the good DM's. Heartland is destroying everything that Gordon was built on. Long time customers that made Gordon the great company it was are being ignored and lost. The western terminals are slowing being converted to nothing more than drop yards. Day drivers are being eliminated and OTR drivers are expected to pick up the slack and do local deliveries without additional pay for short hauls. Maintenance employees are being laid off and service turnaround is a joke. They want us in a terminal every 7,000 miles for maintenance (yes about every 2 weeks), but they don't keep a large enough staff to do the work in a timely manner and every time something more than an oil change is required they send the truck to a Freightliner dealer which takes a week to complete and keeps us drivers off the road with no pay. Heartland doesn't carry chains on their trucks for winter driving and shut down when there is any snow. They are slowly phasing out chains on Gordon trucks as well, which will pretty much shut down all winter freight on the west coast because chains are required to run the I-5 for 6 months a year. It's almost as if Heartland bought Gordon just to shut it down. At least that's what appears to be happening.
I've only been with the company for a few months, but it's easy to see the writing on the wall. Over the last six months they've lost hundreds of experienced drivers and I'll be moving on very soon because I have no desire to be a Heartland employee. The few I've talked to are more miserable than the Gordon drivers. -
Meh.....I think guys get too hung up on a company name
My pal drove for heartland here in Tucson..He was happy
He quit when they backed his truck down to 67 mph after he got used to 71...He was a calculator addict and could not bare this...He calculated everything his family wouldnt get as a result of this hideous offense...
I did learn a bunch from him..Enough to not go OTR!!!
He was a pushy demanding man on what he expected from a company and would let them all know from the gate...He was turned down alot, Heartland was one that accomodated him...He gave em 4 years then went back to his drywall buisness where his daily pay is close to his weekly trucking pay -
Ive noticed in the world, when a fancy company with lots of money gets feeling ####y and starts buying out others, its always the beggining of the end...The good work that got them the money in the first place has been forgotton, new people come in, guys with horticulture degrees and stuff....it gets all messed up///
Have you seen YRC? LOL, DPS is gonna be carrying prefilled out red tags for them trucks..big money union takeover? Ha Ha whatever..
I dont know anything about Gordon tho...Other than I see thier trucks for sale down here at used fleet yard -
Was in the Pacific WA yard yesterday and right now I'm in the Rancho Cucamonga yard looking at all of the blue trucks with Heartland logos. The Gordon service techs that haven't been laid off yet are busy as little bees changing the logos on all of the trucks. Its happening at all of the terminals. Pretty soon they'll be taking away our trucks with APU's and then Gordon will be dead. A couple more months of this BS and I'm outta here.
