To replace with a reman and be done with it or just do the back half and carry on. 2009 Volvo 620,000 miles. Tranny shop says I just had bad luck that this happened. Theres goo and flakes through the oil. 13 speed Eaton manual. Opinions? Experience? I run Vancouver from Toronto pulling a tridem reefer, gross weight up at 100,000 regularly.

My experience has been how was the core treated like before rebuild ( on a swap ) . If the rest of yours is good and it's just the back half then rebuild yours.

Check your clutch, Rear main and u joints while in there........if you have a trans cooler then it all needs to be flushed and the pump replaced.

What's his warranty ? Nationwide? Towing?

And just for grins before you commit, price a brand new one all done. You might be surprised at how close it is to the reman......also call the local salvage yards.....you might find a low mileage pull out. ( only if it's in the truck, on the ground means nothing )

Try not to get ate up with the "I got to go" stuff either, getting rolling again might feel real good....didn't lose much time etc. until something fails cause we were in a hurry.....now were down again, there's towing, motels....our load gets repowered and we lose more money.

Great points. The truck is at a very reputable transmission/differential guy here in Vancouver. He has given me some of the options you have described. He has a NEW 18 that his shop built available, as well as remans. I will ask him monday about whether or not rebuilding mine is a good option as well. I think (like you are suggesting) pulling the whole thing while its in, and inspect the clutch etc/

The new 18 he has is very tempting.... 7300 plus install/

7300 for 18 is a lot of money. Ask your self this. Do you spend a lot of time pulling in the low side of your 13. I'd think not if your pulling tridem weights. If so then you must have a small block under the hood. If so yes get the 18. If you got 550 hp or more , the 13 is more then good. If you were hooked to a set of trains then 18 all the way. I would just do the back half your trans and ride.

Coastline Transmission is doing the work. I do agree about not really needing the 18, you're rightt, I'm not pulling trains back and forth lol!

If your clutch is good and there's not a crazy amount of miles on your trans then just get them to pull back half and go thru it. Should be one day in and out. Count on 2000-2500 out the door.

There is only a 1,000,000kms on it. He's saying it's just dumb luck that this happened. Back end sent shavings throw the oil. PTO cover looked sparkly. Do you think that's going to cause problems long term? Or the possibility that this stuff has been floating around the bearings and gears sanding them for a while now?

i would rebuild the aux box and be done if there are no issuies with the main box then it will most likely be good to go i have actually done a few rear sections on trans with over a million and there still going and 7300 is a lot for a reman i would flush the trans check the pump and drain and recheck in a few hundred miles eatons are pretty reselant. just my .02
