c15 started pushing a little coolant out of overflow hose on rad. put pop bottle down there was bubbling and pushing a little coolant changed rad caps no difference. unhooked air compressor from cooling system no bubbles. hooked air compressor back into cooling system got bubles but now have heavy white smoke from stacks and gets a little stubble on engine then clears out along with smoke. let sit overnight and fired it up in morning temp dropped down to single digits started right up a little smoke wasnt plugged in 2 spins running. looked at exhaust manifold see that its wet by front joint put finger on it smells and tastes like fuel. did i lose a injector at same time was testing air compressor. checked rad before starting was at same level when left last night. smoke almost like atmosheric sensor unplugged checked that its plugged in. confused do i have couple things going on at same times. just seems alot of things happened all at once after testing air compressor.

I think it soumds exactly like what mine is getting done right know , you have a cracked head, and I will bet you it is on #4 hole. Hope I am wrong for your sake, but that is what it sounds like. Get it to a good shop and they will have a series of pressure tests they preform and will be able to tell you exactly without tearing it down.

Go to the diesel garage site, in the search box put in Handy links, scroll down to the bottle test and do the complete test as posted, get the new cap tested, many are junk from new.
That way you have the information needed to make an informed decision. The air compressor on a Cat does not have coolant in the body just the head.
    Just a thought!

And if that compressor leaks at the head you pressurize the cooling system ......and you'll be pushing more than a little coolant out......

P.S. My compressor leak blew my radiator apart ......

Yeah you are right I just thought it was weird that it would stop bubbling in pop bottle when unhooking air compressor from cooling system. Then when i hooked air compressor back into cooling system truck started blowing white smoke outa stacks and its has never done that before my guess right now is its got a cracked head.

There is also a tool offered by blue point/ snap-on. Maybe others have it as well its a sampling tool with die in it. You suck up vapours in cooling system and if co is present the die changes color and you have combustion gasses in cooling system.

    Cat sdp Thanks this.

Dummy injector and pressurize the cylinder with nitrogen is the best way.

Sorry to drag this up. How did you disconnect the compressor from coolant system and not loose coolant. I was going to do this test this weekend and wanted to know how to do it. Thank you.
