Now that's the way an experienced guy gets it done. I have to use a step ladder myself.

You would be surprised by some of the pics my drivers send us of how "machinery haulers" tie down wheeled units. My personal favorite is 2 four inch straps, one across the front tires pulling to the middle and one across the back doing the same. Another great one is two four inch straps on a skid steer, one over the booms at the rear of the unit and one across the top of the bucket. I have been hearing some great stories about how the Canadians haul combines. For starters, they often use step decks (we are close to 13-6' on an RGN). Then they use about half the securement they should. Its no wonder one of them tipped one over on an off ramp around Des Moines a couple months ago. I am waiting to hear about someone pulling a couple combine heads out without securement (they tie them to the trailer with twisted wire/cable). Those are our "peers" gentlemen.

Yes, I will agree with you on our peers.. Even today where I lded. one of the other contractors tied his ld. down and I was kinda looking at it. I don't know. Has the right amount of chains, just not the right way to keep the ld. on the trl. These lds. are Mod. sections of a big building. Shipper stated how and where to tie down. No problem as they have the right brackets etc. for tying down and they also have their own fleet of trks..
His front chains instead of crossing chaining he went and tied off to the front side of a hdy. neck. They angle up not down..

Oh by the way it's the trl. that broke on me in Dec. on my first trip with this company. .I saw the trl. and about fell over..
I told him briefly about it and he seemed not to care...

My favorite all time securement malfunction is straps over a set of tracks on a skidsteer or mini excavator
