Before you work for Schneider make sure that you are willing to stay out for 21 to 60 days at a time like my brother did. You also need to check out the contract with them. If you do not drive for them for one year then you will have to pay back your school. They look for every little thing to fire you before the contract is up. Some people make it and some people don't. If you do not complete your contract then you have to pay it back with 18% interest on top of that no matter how long you drove for them. Then you have to look at the time it takes for you to find the trailers in the yard for a drop and hook and that can take a while. You don't make very good money there and the trucks are freight shakers you will know what I mean when you drive one. If you do not agree to pay then they will take you to court and that costs more money. So there are also many wrecks with this company using young kids to drive their trucks not to mention all the crap you will get from other truckers because you are driving a pumpkin truck. If there are any other truckers that worked for this company and had the same thing happen to them please feel free to reply to this e-mail. There are so many more things about this company that has to be discussed it would be a good blog or headline to have on this forum. Take care and good luck!! I hope you don't make the same mistake I did.

lol 60 days out? I have yet to hear of that. This is trucking. You sign up for it and you know going into it that your home time will be minimal...your truck is your new home...anyone that doesnt realize that is just dreaming.
You mean...the contract you signed...or the contract you were allowed to read and then sign...or wait...the contract that is available for ALL to see and download and read off of their website. Oh wait...all three are the same exact thing.
18 months, not 12. In the contract.

    uh....ok?

Now...wait..wait a second here, let me get this straight, you sign up for a loan and are charged interest if you bail out? What kind of world is...oh yeah its just like every other loan out there. Actually no its not...they charge you IF you leave the company. They dont charge yo the interest if you stay with them for that 18 months.

lol wow. days upon days Im sure.

who is giving you this tin-foil hat deserving line o poo?
Lets compare midwest between Schneider and Roehl
    Schneider: inexperienced newb....: .30 /mile
    Roehl: .28 mile
    Schneider: 6-12 months .35/mile
    Roehl: 30-31
    Schneider. 1-3 years...40 /mile
    Conway after one year.... .36/mile.

While they may not have the higest pay...its very competitive and keeps up to or beats other companies. Even if its a few cents less...they seem to have loads available even now to keep people running.
Or not. Sorry if I dont whine like others when my tea and crumpets spill over when Im driving a 10 ton truck. Pinky up!

no way...are you serious, that people actually try to collect money from others that dont pay it? nahhh...your just pullin my leg! haha hardee har har.

ALL trucking companies have wrecks. I've seen well over 40 accidents, most of them involving trucks in the last 5 months alone...never seen a single pumpkin truck in an accident. sure they do happen, but I have yet to see one. Plus we have additional training, more so than other companies provide...so Id think that would make our drivers even a tad bit more safe. My spring training is coming up pretty soon.

Now you are saying that I need to give a crap what other drivers think about my truck? You seriously need to think about it. What kind of person gets on a CB and starts blasting another driver just for no reason at all, ebcause they are a pumpkin driver? And with that in mind, you are worried about that persons opinion? Heres a tip, shut the CB off, shift, and keep on going. Sorry if some of us respect other drivers out there and in doing so, get the exact SAME thing in return.

    Well then, bring it on.

HAHA! Pumpkin Truck! Although they do come after you on the tuition, they have nothing on the $46,000 plus interest I would have if I finished studying for a meteorology degree, which you don't make much money at all. Maybe enough to buy a nice huffy bike. It really isn't worth the aggravation of the math and physics you need. I can only imagine the jokes about the pumpkin trucks.

I got a small joke my aunt told me about driving in New York City. Her husband once was stopped by the police there and the policeman asked him why he was stopping at the red lights. My uncle was confused and asked what he meant. The policeman said he was nuts for stopping at the lights because while he would be sitting there waiting for the green his trailer would be emptied by the locals, even if he was stopped for only a second. The policeman told him you should just blow the horn and keep going.

Now, I don't think that really happened. But it was funny when she told me.

I have an interview with Schneider 1st of April at 1:45pm. I don't mind being out for weeks at a time as long as I get to drive. I should be training in Dallas. I will just have to hope for the best from them. I could also go with Steven's transport but I really haven't heard too great things about them.

Why would you say such things when someone is just about to take the plunge? Unbelievable. I doubt they try to fire you before your contract term, they could either have the $4,500 for the school (which most schools cost anyways to get your CDL) or have a driver continue to improve and make deliveries reliably for years to come. Unless you suck, it would be counterproductive for them to get rid of you after all the training and time spent. Worst case, I get my training and CDL which I would have to pay for anyways, no free lunches.

So far I've found Schneider to be straight forward and honest.

You're posting in the wrong thread, this thread is intended to educate those interested in Schneider training by a newbie actually going through the reality of it. Less emotion, more reality.

you posted in the wrong thread, this thread was intended to inform others of the reality of Schneider through a newbies eyes actually going through it. Less opinions and more reality. And I doubt they try to fire you after all the training and time they put into you (unless you suck of course), thats a recipe for a financially disaster. Worst case, I'd have to pay the $4,500 which I'd have to pay anyway for school and CDL training. So far I've found Schneider to be open and honest.

Good for you Jason. Don't listen to the little crybabies who can't make it in the industry:biggrin_2553:. I've been keeping up on reading your every post with this thread and you're doing great. Keep your head up and before you know it, you'll have your own rig rollin' down the interstate! I'm sure you are pumped for that day to come!

Again, don't let the bozo's who post here get to ya:biggrin_25522:. Everybody starts somewhere and who knows, if you don't like running with Schni after the 18 months, you got the training and then can go to any company you want with good experience under your belt.

I plan on applying to big orange within the next month or so and seeing if I can get accepted to their training program. From all the posts' I've read on this site, they definately are one of the top 5 companies in the industry. No company is going to have a cakewalk and if were for everyone, everyone would do it. Have fun out there!

    Thanks guys!

Today I thought I was going out with my training engineer, packed up all my stuff and went to the carteret facility. Just sat around with 2 other students and the DBL told us to do trip plans to keep busy, and he let us go at 3:00. I asked him when i'll be going out and he said he can't guarantee anything he's trying to plan everything etc.

Tomorrow we'll practice driving in the yard with a guy named Marc. I'm ready to go out with my TE and learn how trucking really is, hope that happens soon, nobody has any answers, so it's a big unknown as far as when i go out with my TE and for how long.

Well thats strange that they dont have a TE ready for you. I know in Fontana they had a gal in the office there whos job it was to check background crap and match up students with TEs.

Hm, I dont remember you saying what you got signed on for. If you are good, dont be surprised if you are out for a week or less. I trained with a TE on a dedicated run and was with him for four days. Unfortunately they crammed two of us students in with him so I only got half the driving time. The other student stayed another week because he had some struggles.

Today I rode with a TE in training. Name was rich, real nice guy, he's not a TE yet but will be next week. I just road and watched, we loaded the trailer at a chemical plant that was very close to the yard. We had a 3 compartment tanker, it took a long time to load and the unloader went to a meeting for like 2 hours so we just waited and chilled for a long time. Was a relaxing day and I got to pick his brain for awhile, we were literally at the shipper for 6 hours.

Tomorrow I have to be at the yard by 6 am to go out with a TE locally. I asked for how long, they said they don't know, if he gets an assignment over the road I'll have to go with him, so I'll bring all my packed stuff in case.

Just going with the flow, lots of free time so I read some interesting books i just got and update my logbook etc.
