I started out as an oilfield driver wich is strictly O/O,back several yrs ago the drivers here went on strike for better pay, getting paid for extra stops and waiting time. The companies had no choice but to comply. I did not read through all of the posts so someone else may have already posted about this. OTR drivers need to strike, it doesn't matter if you are an O/O or a company driver. Company drivers are failing to realize that without you(the driver) the company cannot exist and they can't fire everyone! Fight for higher wages, paid detention time, better treatment in general. O/O, fight for better rates, lower fuel prices, lower toll road prices, lumpers, better treatment in general.Drivers, you are away from your families for weeks at a time, you should be paid for that sacrifice. The states that are making life extremely difficult for truckers/trucks(no idling, no parking, split speed limits, high toll road prices extreme restrictions, time restrictions for trucks in certain towns etc. ) refuse to go into or thru those states, do not spend a single penny in that state. California for example..refuse to go into the state for pickup/delivery, they don't want trucks in their state so don't go. When the farmers have their food rotting in the fields and the milk is not being trucked out of the dairies, etc. Trust me, you will have the GUVNA"S full attention. Then maybe..just maybe, the general public and the politicians will realize that WITHOUT TRUCKS...AMERICA STOPS!!! AS FAR AS YOU DRIVERS THAT ARE AFRAID TO STRIKE IN FEAR OF HAVING YOUR TRUCK REPO'D. IF YOU DON'T DO ANYTHING THEN YOU WILL LOSE IT ANYWAY.

I have to agree with something that was said on here earlier. You co. drivers (who won't support this) will remember April 1st this summer when your company threatens to fire you over your idle-time.

A big thanks to all (especially non-drivers) who support our efforts!!

    PS,
The FSC is not an OPTION for SOME of us!
OUR CUSTOMERS will leave us if we just so happen to mention HIGHER FREIGHT RATES or more of a FSC!
    SO, LEAVE THAT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The FSC should not be out. It will work if it is mandatory for all to pay it to the truck. It must be mandated and it must go to the truck. We are regulated everywhere else but why not to our benefit... and, why are brokers not held to the same standards we are???!!!

Oil prices effect many occupations including ours. My husband has 4 trucks on the road. We are a paving company. It not only effects the fuel but the product we buy. And if we keep passing this increase onto our customers they'll too go elsewhere looking for the cheapest rate.

A similar incident effected 1990's economy ( when the first Bush was in office, they say the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree) in which we did go bankrupt. If we go down this time it won't be because we sat there and just talked about it, we are going to do something about it! Just think how many occupations this does effect. A LOT !! BELIEVE ME!

BAND TOGETHER AMERICA!!! GET THE WORD OUT!

I am not a trucker, but, when I heard about this strike thing on the talk radio station I listen to I got really excited. Finally someone who has more power than the oil companies!!! You guys have so much power and no one really ever thinks about it. If you stop delivering things prices of everything will go up! I was reading somewhere online that one guy wants the government to step in and fix it... That is a horrible idea... Let the free market do its thing. If you stop delivering things the prices will skyrocket immediately on everything!!! Raising the prices of food means that we will no longer be sending food to Iraq, or any of those middle eastern countries that depend on us for food. Middle easterners get the majority of there food from us. By raising the price of food you can put pressure on the oil companies to lower the price of oil and it will also put pressure on the oil companies here to lower prices.

You need to get organized and set a price... Say $1.50 a gallon... Let the oil companies know that you will not buy gas from anyone charging over that amount.

    Venezuela thinking windfall oil tax
    Sat, 05 Apr 2008 03:27:47
    [IMG] President Hugo Chavez.
Venezuela is preparing an oil tax to boost nation's revenues from record crude prices following President Chavez's nationalizing the cement industry.

The move extends Chavez's broad campaign to boost state control over oil operations that led to legal battles with Exxon Mobil and ConocoPhillips and helped spark a wave of resource nationalism throughout the Andes.

"Because of high oil prices, oil companies have excessive earnings that go beyond reasonable levels of profitability," legislator Angel Rodriguez told state news agency ABN on Thursday.

"One way to distribute them to our people, who are the owners of the oil, is to create this tax."

The windfall tax will take fifty percent of oil revenues above USD 70 per barrel, Rodriguez said and an additional sixty percent of revenues over USD 100 per barrel.

The move will give Chavez new funds to shore up popularity among the nation's poor majority that has backed him for almost a decade but is increasingly criticizing his government for nagging food shortages and rampant crime.

Meanwhile, Foreign-owned cement companies operating in Venezuela reacted with caution Friday to President Hugo Chavez's announcement that their assets would be nationalized.

Mexican-owned Cemex, Switzerland's Holcim and French-owned Lafarge are all affected by the order.

The Venezuelan president made the announcement in a cabinet meeting late Thursday. Chavez said that the companies would be compensated. The action was in part sparked by the companies exporting cement while the Venezuelan domestic market is suffering shortag

Well, I didn't feel like sitting through 52 pages of posts at the moment so I'll just go with this for now. I posted on another thread (I think it was called plan D? in this forum)about this same thing. Organize. Slow it down to 50. Spend a month or two getting the word out to ALL truckers, company and o/o's, and have a firm date set for a month or two from now. Like how about July 1st to the 7th? Seven solid days of running 50 mph by a million trucks would seriously deplete supplies in the stores, right at a major travel holiday. So let's put our heads together and get the word out. That will give us PLENTY of time to organize it.

But it wouldn't just be about high fuel prices for both trucks and cars. It's also about brokers and companies that aren't passing on the FULL fuel surcharge to the o/o and/or leased truck, that are taking WAY MORE than their fair share. Unfair wage practices. ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TAKING OUR DRIVING JOBS, unfair federal and state regulations put upon truck drivers (which need to be spelled out precisely if we want any changes), all these idle laws, parking laws, etc, that leave a driver no where to park to take the federally mandated sleeper break, and then having to shut your truck off and freeze to death in winter because you can't idle and your company won't allow apu's to be installed. We need a concrete, explicite (sp?), detailed list of everything that we are protesting.

So, what do you all say? Can we actually get together and do something, or are we just going to keep bemoaning the "state of the union" till we're all sitting on the curb as homeless people?

The only way it will ever work is if we try. Try by getting the word out with plenty of time, and having our ducks in a row on what we are doing it for.
