My husband is an owner operator for a company that we truly hate. They suckered him into a plate program so we are stuck for the next month. Everyone is averaging $1.90 to $2.20 a mile and he is only averaging $1.60 and he is constantly getting layed over and sent to bad states. We are not picky people but would like to hear about any good maybe small to medium sized companies that hire owner operators...only in Chicago or surrounding areas. There are a ton of advertisments but all sound too good to be true.

You can do that in intermodal for a 10-12 hr day running Indy-Chicago lane and be home every night and weekend!!

I'd try Bill at Farm2fleet / Covenant Expidited before I talked to anyone else, he is a very wise man. Really knows freight lanes.

Ok thanks guys. I will pass the info on to my husband. He actually tried intermodal and didn't like it too much, but thanks. I appreciate it

My question would be ...why is EVERYONE else doing better than your husband? I do not know your situation but it is uncanny how often "bad luck" follows a driver from job to job

Also remember that drivers lie. We had a past F2F driver that would tell everyone how great he was doing but was on the bottom of the list in terms of rates and revenue. Not trying to discourage him from calling me but take everything with a grain of salt.

Also, in the grand picture the costs of plates isn't that much. If he is looking at a months worth of plates payments compared to making better money he would likely come out ahead in a week. But I don't know you situation. Just do the math compared to running $1.80 per mile and getting good revenue and $1.60 on bad miles.
