    For all you eastern/midwest drivers:

    When you go out west, they have "ports of entry". Apparently the one sign I couldn't finish reading due to various reasons said I had to stop at it. If you see a sign for a port of entry, it's a good idea to stop.

    I got a warning for bypassing a port of entry. I didn't know what it was. It was pointing down some dinky little street right next to the signs saying to merge left. He waved me in, looked at my paperwork, and gave me a nice warning for not stopping at the port of entry. I explained to him that I did in fact stop, as I was inside the port of entry talking to him, and he said that didn't count because he waved me in. Then he mentioned that it was a $110 ticket, so I just dropped the argument. Looking back at it, I wish I would have gotten the ticket so I could appear in court for the ticket stating I bypassed a port of entry. I think he would have had a poor case considering he handed the warning to me over the counter.

    Still a little peeved. Not on my MVR or anything, but I'm guessing the company will stick it on my DAC. Anyways, someone could've told me about this before my first trip out west. Now someone has told you.

    A little more. In MI, WI, IL, NY, OH, MA, MS, IA, CT, PA, VT, NH, MN, SD, NJ... you didn't have to go inside and tell them what you were hauling. And they actually called them what they were--weigh stations.

    Most likely your company won't put it on your DAC. It would prove you actually drove a truck LOL. It wouldn't be an issue. Trust me.

    You really have to pay attention out west. Especially if you've gotten used to the way things "typically" work east of the MS.

    A few trips in and out of the west, it'll be just another day in the park.

    Unless things have changed dramatically in the past 6 or so yrs, you have a POE in Wy, AZ, Or, NM as well.

    Im thinking there's more but those are the ones I ran into regularly.
    In Wy, you'll be bringing your paperwork & permits inside no matter what.
    I think Or used to be the same way.

    In Wyoming you do have to take in your paperwork, still. They gave me the green on the prepass in UT.

    You're 21 according to your details. I will assume that is your true age. If it is, you got the warning because you're a young guy. Older blokes would have gotten the ticket, as you would have been expected to know better, no matter your level of driving experience.

    Some of the POEs are hard to see and get to, so somebody missing it is no surprise.

    That's got to be the most honest statement I've seen regarding experience vs lack of experience.

    As an older experienced driver, I can not use even a legitimate excuse. Well, I could. But the impending butt chewing would not be worth it LOL

    Anything I do, that could be perceived as a rookie mistake. Is taken as a deliberate attempt to break the law.

    CMoore its good that you just dropped the issue because weather or not you would have "won", in the long run proving your point would have been a real hassle for you. Taking the time off or scheduling a load to get you a court at the right date etc....probably cost way more than even the ticket. I wouldnt even have turned a warning into your company.

    It CO. it's definitely worth it to hold your tongue when dealing with POE. Make them mad, they'll inspect, and they WILL find a reason to shut your ride down. Cortez POE had one of those NAFTA trucks from farther south shut down for over a week. :D
