So how does one deal with dispatch that only give good runs to those who pay him?

I'm sorry but life isn't fair and if your husband isn't flexible enough to work the system that he is in then he needs to quit and go elsewhere. Life is about networking and finding out whose back to scratch, trucking is the same as any other industry. If you are so set in your ways then the checks are going to be on the light side. Put the shoe on the other foot and see it from their perspective, your husband probably comes across as unfriendly and stubborn and no fun to work with . . . just a thought.

I'd heard of a similar situation with a major carrier's terminal, dispatchers requiring payment to dispatch drivers. This was found out when the company president, on one of his forays behind the wheel to check out the system and keep his hand in the game went to the terminal dispatch window and was flat out told he'd have to fork over $50 to get a dispatch. The entire terminal staff was fired and replacements flown in until permanent hires could take over.

This isn't common. If it happened to me I'd go to the terminal manager. If that didn't work then I'd go right to the top of the company. Put everything in writing, try to get recordings of the extortion.

True.. but any way other than hand to hand wojld be easily verified, there would be a paper trail.. even with Pay Pal.. if t h eh are paying the dispatcher through Pay Pay then it could easlily be proven...

I understand you proudly embrace the redneck title..but try not being so naive. frankly I think your husband's story is what's known in the industry as a "trucker story"...

I had a problem with a dispatch, I stuck it out next thing I know she's gone. So you never know what's in store.

Question along these lines: Last time I was at my home terminal my dispatcher took me out to lunch. Am I doin' it wrong?

Is it possible to set him up? I would guess the other drivers would be calling this dispatcher and making arrangements to pay him off. Maybe do it a couple of times but get it recorded, mark the bills whatever it takes. Take the evidence to someone higher up. Does your husband get dispatched from a terminal or is it over the phone or QC? I've been reading how there are more loads available than trucks can cover so I'm a little puzzled. The company must not be that busy if they can cherry pick loads for certain drivers who are paying to play. What is the dispatcher doing, delaying the other loads? Can he get a different dispatcher?
