King i've bit my tongue this entire thread until now. But I'll try to say it kindly, but it might be pretty blunt.

At this point you have 0 hands on experience in the realm of trucking. You are 21, just now old enough to run OTR, don't have your CDL and are currently a "wannabe".

Trust me when I say that what is written in the sales propaganda from the manufactures does not line up in real life. All of use that have been out here for a while know this. In time you'll learn that the hard way too.

I don't mean the posted words unkindly, but I needed to put some perspective into your goals in trucking.

I've said before if all the sales propaganda were true every trucking company in the nation would be running Volvos and Prostars. Reality does not show this to be happening.

    I don't doubt that at all. The T6 I posted earlier would do 8 to 9 empty/bobtail.

Well Brick, Walmart is replacing its 9400I and Freightliner fleet with Prostars and PAM has them and bunch of other companies do.

Also, I am in college for your FYI. I posted somewhere on here I am going to bet my boating captains license due to high fuel. When and if fuel comes down I will get my CDL and drive OTR.

    Captain,

What company are you driving for?

Hey, Brick, I hope you don't mind me stepping in.

If you have been reading Kinghunter's posts, and I know you have, then you will see that he is where many of us were at that age:

"Hey, I love those big trucks. If I could have my own, then I would buy a (fill in the blank of your childhood favorite truck)"

I think we all agree that if we are looking for experienced advice, we will look to Brick's posts. If we want a little back and forth chatter to pass the time and want to remember what it was like to be young and thrilled with trucks, then we will look at Kinghunter's posts.

You have created a very large and open community here, with room for everyone.

I hope BOTH of you, Brick, and Kinghunter, will continue your very well thought out posts, because they are very insightful and I enjoy them all.

The drivers could have been the determining factors. If you had switched drivers in those trucks on the return trip under the same conditions and compared the averages it would have been more scientific.

The issue here is that well...you didnt see your own writing. Swedish truck standards. I would hope they pass the european tests mainly because they are a european company...very popular over there. I dont know of KW, Petes, Freightliners...etc overseas.
This doenst make any sense. I dont know how higher HP can equal better MPG. Mainly because the torque of that HP is needed to get the freight moving, but not much power itself is needed to keep it moving as the momentum. You seriously dont need 6,8, 1000k HP on a highway to keep freight moving. The more power produced, Id actually believe the MORE fuel is used, not less.
King another thing to keep in mind is that...who cares if you go to college. That doesnt make you smart. Lots of people in the trucking industry come from all walks of life. I myself have two degrees. A volvo is a truck and when you start putting it up on a pedastal, you look at it through rose colored glasses. When a company buys a truck in huge volumes, they get large discounts on a truck. IE...lets say a Volvo costs 110k...if a company orders a huge quantity of them, they might easily be able to get it for 90k or less. PLUS, they also get alot of what you would consider to be the wonderful things of a volvo...taken out of the truck. They can customize it the way they want, taking out a ton of stuff that others think makes a volvo a volvo. IE...if you were to look at Swift and Covenant transport...youd see they have rather crappy volvos. People think a cadillac is a top of the line car, and it is...but if you were picky enough and ordered 10,000 of them, Im sure caddy would have no qualms making them cost the price of and have the features of a Ford Focus.
