Can someone go into more detail about the rotation jobs.....the paid flights home, types of trucking jobs and locations where these jobs exist. Is it something you earn or can you get these postings as a new hire.....with driving experience or not.

I am in Ontario, about to complete the AZ (Class 1) course. Am I dreaming to think that I can get a decent paying job where I work (approx.) 20 days with accommodations provided, then get flown home to Toronto on the company dime to my young family for a week to 10 days each month or so?

or should I get 1-2 years driving here for Schneider, Coca-cola, etc. before I consider out west. I'm looking to make bigger money for a season or 2 out west then come home.....or convince the family to move out there!

Probably get a 20-10 flights on your own dime.. Those flights paid are myth for new guys.

    Pretty much true.

On the well servicing side of things, companies like BakerHughes, Calfrac, Sanjel and Step have rotation options. It's a revolving door, so bringing a class 1 to the table might get you in the door. But mostly the rotation jobs are for experienced guys, or successful newer hires that are working out well in their job, reliable, and are "keepers". I can't talk to trucking specific rotations or companies as I know nada about that.

You are decreasing the odds of getting hired by needing rotation. Costs the company extra money and they already have high employee turnover rates.

With rotation you actually lose income because you work less days of a year. So it's a trade off. But for those of us that do it, it's for the lifestyle and time at home, assuming the $ is more than adequate.

One piece of free advice. Keep your plans to go back after a couple years quiet. That's not helping the oil patch revolving door one bit. It's a horrendous challenge in itself.

Just guessing here but being proficient at chaining might move you to the front of the line too, most service companies require it as soon as you leave the pavement.
