They deal with these sorts of issues from drivers EVERY DAY, some are real, some are fabricated stories in an attempt to get home for some big party. Sounds like you may as well plan on taking some "family leave" time and may require you to clean out the truck if you can't be entirely sure when you'll be back, and if they are short on equipment and long on available drivers. This way they won't be hassling you to get back to work and you won't have to worry about that part of it.

i just recently had a refresher student who took about three years off to care for a loved one. He had no regrets and came back to the same company he left. Business goes on but life and family is what it is. I wish you well.

Hope your child has a speedy recovery Thoughts and Prayers to you and your family. It is a shame that a company would do you that way in a family emergency.
As for people using that excuse to get out of work then it will come back to haunt them in the long run. I know a person who used the grandmother passed away 3 times.jsprocket Thanks this. -
Your allowed to use the family leave act also, and if your company punishes you for it then hire a lawyer. Hope all is well

she's better, still under treatment and we have to go 80+ miles to the hospital of choice. that's part of the reason I'm still off the road she needs a driver. one of the meds makes her very irritable and for that she's on a Zoloft substitute, which makes her easily distracted too distracted to drive.
we should be nearing the end of her infusions( I hope)
thanks for asking about and praying for her, she needs it.Big Don Thanks this. -

There is a thing called the Family and Medical Leave Act which might protect you from being fired. The law basically allows you up to 12 weeks a year of unpaid leave for personal or family medical purposes. It is not automatic, as a couple conditions must be meet before it is applicable. Here's a link I found to some info about it that might let you discern if it does apply to you. Best of luck for you and I pray for your daughter's health! Regardless, family has priority over a job and if an employer doesn't understand that, I wouldn't work for him any longer than it takes me to find another job.
