I agree. However, I have a different plan, which right now does not include me quitting. I don't want to find another job and be there only for two months (will be away for two months starting June)

Right. Besides, nothing good will come out of me calling them and yelling. Especially for me.

My answer to post #319
I dont know the whole story.. he knows his performance record as a diver, and his dispatcher...
Werner paid for my hotel and cab fare from my truck to tne hotel and back to my truck again when my starter went out.. they put me in a loaner truck till my truck was ready...
I will say that werner does not treat all drivers the same... werner is a training company and a performance based company... I learned that with my first trainer.. we were rolling along getting load after load, then she pulled aa couple stunts, like wasting time under a load to go have dinner with her boyfriend of the week.. then things slowed up and we got the left over and crapy runs.. like a 18 mile run with a 6 hour live unload.. it was two days of shagging loaded trailers from the drop yard to the recievers 18 miles away to sit and wait to be unloaded...
Whether that is right or wrong for a company to do is for another thread.. I accept that is how it is and make sure I am on the good list...
I dont think they treat all drivers and all breakdowns the same.. a starter going out is not something a driver can detect on their pre trips.. I think if the breakdown is something the driver caused or should of been able to avoid.. tthey would treat that driver different that one who had an avoidable breakdown through no fault of their own..
Werner is a training compnay .. they provide drivers with training wheels , resourses and support. ? But a lot is still up to the driver..Last edited by a moderator: Mar 26, 2014

You drifted somewhere far away from the topic, my friend.
And yes, sure you know the whole story; it's been said plenty of times. I am not trying to conspire against you, but you sure seem to think so.
-
Tonakis... I dont know the whole story.. only what you have posted.. I also dont know your history or performance record with werner or as a driver... werner, and most other companies as well, will treat a good performing responsible driver differently than a poor performing driver...
I am not saying you are a poor performing driver.. because I dont know that... but, normally wener doesn't want good drivers sitting around for 12 days...
I dont think you are conspiring against me.. and I wouldn't care if you were.. as you dont have any power or control over my life or work...
I think the lessons in this situation and thread are not just for you.. but those reading it.. new drivers who may also need to know you will not be taught or shown everything you need to know.. but, it is always your responsibility to find out what you need to know and before damaging your equipment and creating costly repairs...
Werner normally does pay to put their drivers in a hotel when there truck is in the shop... if you sent in a macro 59 request for a motel reason Breakdown.. it would either be approved or not approved... if it was not approved they would tell you the reason it was not approved...
Your fleet manager should tell you why they would rather you sit then to be out in a loaner truck.
Sorry, but you come off like you want to play the role of "poor rookie getting mistreated by Big Bad Company"
More honesty.. it really eerks me.. this was so unavoidable and just another "dumb rookie" stunt that makes it harder for rookies to be taken seriously... and why many good companies dont want to hire rookies...
Why should rookies get a free pass to damage or cause costly repairs.. experienced drivers dont get a free pass and warm fuzzies when they make a costly mistake... experienced drivers encounter stuff they have never been taught all the time as well..
Why dont you go back and read through the posts.. your first excuse was your trainer never taugbt you about DEF, then I pointed out the Werner website and the CBTs, your excuse, there were 350 and you were not assigned one..
Wow, so you would have the added step of clicking on the "enroll" button first..
You have been so willing to let everyone think that Werner just threw you in a truck and have been abusing you, wont even pay for your hotel...
I dont think werner is the best company.. but it is a good enough company for rookies... they have decent trucks, loads and 24 hour a day support...
I do think you were an irresponsible rookie... -
This is classic forum post though. Blame everybody but myself and let others shower me with encouragement. But again. Those of us who seem to be hard on this character or trying to show the rookies or even the experienced these cookies and cream stories don't work, and won't get you a second look. Yeah you have some cheerleaders on a thread, but none of them would want you to work at their company or park next to them in a truck stop or dock.
Bed room gave the dude 10 reason. The most important is to just READ AND make good judgement. Learn from his mistakes, and don't repeat them. The trouble didn't come when he accidentally put diesel in the def tank. The trouble came when after he did it he decided to drive hoping he could cover it up. That right there shows he knew and didn't want to call break down for advice to proceed further. He took it in his own hands, and now he's paying the consequences. I promise you most who have went hard on this guy. Would not have if after making the first mistake he didn't take proper actions to make it right.
I'm just saying if this guy was a tanker driver and decided to dump diesel in the unleaded tanks and then after noticing his mistake. Tried to cover it up by diluting it with more unleaded. I'm sure the car owners along with the store owners, and the company wouldn't be too happy. We are done bashing this guy. Just please learn from his mistakes. If you can't make a turn. Stop and call for help. Knock on some doors before you run over somebodies garage or car. You don't have to get into the curve before you notice you are going to take out a light pole. You have a long trailer that needs a lot of room. So don't get yourself in more trouble by putting yourself in a bad situation. Crap happens all the time. That's what makes this job an adventure. Safety is a practice not luck. -
if you don't know what your doing then you should ask before doing. nuff said
Dinomite Thanks this. -
You still haven't mentioned how you broke your truck Dinomite???? What ya hiding????/
-
Dang you got me. Well see what had happen was. I went to the speed co for my 40,000 mile service B service. Oil change etc. Then when its time to leave the truck doesn't want to start. So they prime it blah blah blah after 2 or 3 different times it finally stayed on. I went to the Pilot to knock out an hour power nap. Then got a call from breakdown and said my truck is due for an overhead. Yep I said an overhead at 40,000 miles. Something to do with the Paccar Mx mottor. So I take it to KW and on the way to KW I have no power and the truck's check engine and stop engine light was coming on. So I get it to KW. I tell them about the codes. I was thinking speedco might of put wrong filter on or something. They finally put my truck in for the overhead finish it at about 2 in the morning, and before I left I asked if they fixed the check engine light stuff. He say's no all we were told about was the overhead. So I think maybe truck is fine. Even though when I get in truck I still see the faults and check engine light on. So I drive it out because I'm due in Atl at 1600 that day. Everything is good. Then get on 440 and check engine light/stop light comes on again. So I take the exit do a you turn, and take it back. They can't work on it till later. So later comes along 8am. Break down calls and says they don't even have me checking in. When I checked in twice when I got back. So they find some part that went out in the motor that needs to be replaced. So HAAAAAAH
I DIDN'T BREAK NOTHING, and neither did speedco I guess. Just some dang part decided to quit working after only 40,000 miles. Just one of many reasons why I don't think I'll ever buy a truck.
Anyway that's my story, and I'm stickinggggggggggggg to it -
To 883, Dinomite, etc:
1. No excuses are made (I admit my mistake in my very first post). I stated facts ONLY. I have not left anything out from the story, so we can discuss it better. We all learned some things about DEF, how it works, what got affected, how much it costs to fix. Soon we'll find out how Werner handles further employment in such case. Strangely, more people wanted to call me names rather than they have learned something from my mistake. That's ok, I am sure there are those who got something out of this thread
2. My history with Werner (whether I am a good performing driver or not) does not pertain to this post, but you can always ask me. Then I will decide if I want to tell you.
3. My biggest mistake was to continue to drive, I should have addressed the problem immediately.
4. I can read. We spoke about that, didn't we? I saw one hose at the pump, and a button for DEF. I did not ask, google, or go look through the Werner's videos to search for a DEF video explanation while at the pump and from my phone. I never thought it would be something that I will need shown. I mean how hard could it be to put DEF? Therefore the mistake.
5. I see you love Werner. Good for you. I also don't think they are a bad company. Much of it depends on us, the drivers. You get what you put into it. Don't mistake me for the many Werner brainless rookies out there, I am not them, be certain of that.
6. I always mean well when posting here. I have learned a lot from the time when I was looking for driving school till today, 1 year with Werner pretty much.
Now that I have said this, I would like a little respect. If not, I will just ignore your posts and everything will be fine.Last edited: Mar 26, 2014
