The names Trevor and this is my first forum of any kind. I'm a few weeks away from graduating with my CDL from Smith and Solomon in New Jersey. I currently am communicating with both Schneider National and Maverick (Glass division) for potential OTR jobs. Does anyone have any advice regarding these companies or just general knowledge that could help me on my first solo haul hopefully within the next few months? Any advice or encouragement would be appreciated.

Just remember that those CDL classes teach you how to pass the state test. You will get REAL knowledge when you are out there on the Interstate. Be safe bro

I have never worked for either of two companies.. but I think either one will be a good start for you...
You will go out with a trainer, and hopefully a good one, if your trainer is not good, call and get a different trainer, you owe it to yourself to get good training..
Ane trainer, even tbe best trainer can only teach you a limited amount so you will have to continue to learn and build on your skills...
Wben you are off your trainers truck and in your own, remember there is always more to learn, dont be affraid to ask other drivers... not just when you need help but whenever you can...
Today I was parked kn a gravel lot waiting for my load to be ready.. saw a driver search out a spot and set up there to move his tandems... not always doable on gravel... I also saw him do something else and didn't know what he was doing or why.. so I got out went over and asked him.. turns out he was using a 4 ×4 block to chock his wheels.. he showed me how he sets it so it will grab and not slide... nice guh and I appreciated him taking some time to show me something... dont know if I will ever need to, but now I know how to do it... even grabbed me a good 4x4 piece to have in case...
The trick for rookies.. is to build their confidence but not to be too over confident... being too over confident can get you in trouble...
Good luck...Baphomet16 Thanks this. -
What? I slide my tandems on ice, gravel, sand, uphill, doesnt matter. I guess it depends on the trailer.
