no disrespect taken. that you had issues here has been well documented.....and there are those with the same story as yours.....but I still maintain that the fact we have so many drivers with 10,15,20+ years as a percentage of total drivers and such a low turnover rate speaks to the company as a whole.
generally if someone does not succeed here, it's due to them, to not having good communication skills, or to their DM. without knowing you, I can't say which category you fall in. it also is known there are DM's that you don't want to get. I was on one of their boards for 2 weeks while mine was on vacation. worst 2 weeks I ever had with the company. this dm didn't run me. they didn't answer the phone, they wouldn't respond on the qualcomm. it is well known this one has their favorites and everyone else picks up the scraps. more than one driver has requested and gotten off their board and done well with other dm's. others haven't. your dm will make you or break you and/or you will make you or break you.
the adage that you pick your battles wisely and know what is worth asserting yourself over and what isn't and to keep your mouth shut and do your job applies not only to this job, but any other aspect of life.
I have a family to support. I have bills to pay. just like anyone else. it IS that simple.
it is true I have done well here. I haven't been here 'many years'. look at my profile info. I've been in the game same amount of time as you. I communicate well. I don't let the little stuff eat at me and whine about it. if I speak up and make a big deal out of something, it's something worth speaking up about. I run what I'm given and don't turn down loads, even the short ones and even when they come back to back. sure I have those 15-1800 mile weeks like everyone else. even less. 3 weeks ago I had 1247 for the week. but my dm always backs up those short weeks/trips with something better. I ran 2900 last week and on track to do that much this week.
being a trainer has nothing to do with it. I, and all the other trainers get short trips and short weeks even with a student on the truck. we started out yesterday with a 47 mile trip. 20 empty, 27 loaded then a live unload. then blew 2:40 on a drop and hook that took forever to get in/out of the gate. that's with a student on the truck. you get what you get we aren't given any preference in trips as trainers. student I had before this one we spent a day and a half bouncing around Atlanta doing local bs and barely made 200 miles in that time.....but by the end of that week still turned 2500. we didn't complain about the local bs we just ran it and got some good trips to finish out the week.
it doesn't say anything bad or good about either one of us. it works for some people and it's a good fit and for others it doesn't. the fact that we have so many long-term employees speaks to the fact it's good for more than it is bad.

It's always nice to meet fellow Veterans that are already in Trucking. I have nothing but good things from this company, and the people who drive for them. I served 8 yrs in the Army. I just recently got out , and im ready to start this school so I can get on over there. I'm ready to Hammer_Down on these roads.
flyingmusician Thanks this. -
Lol well it'll be more like a tiny finishing hammer than a 5lb ball peen in a 63 mph truck
-
I'm pretty sure I will have those minimum miles weeks as well. I think everyone goes through it. I hope I will have a good trainer with me, and hopefully a good DM. Communication, and doing your job minding your "P" & "Q"s will help as well from what I have been told.
