I am putting together a business plan for my own authority. I have a question.
I can't get authority without insurance;
I can't get insurance without a truck;
How do I get the truck home that I buy while I wait on the insurance and the authority paperwork? I am in Indiana and I know they have trip permits, but if I buy the truck in another state, do I need a trip permit for every state traveled along with some sort of insurance bond?

Thanks baha. Is there any particular company you would deal with? Or should I go direct to my state?

States usually require your vehicle insurer to automatically extend coverage for ~30 days to any other vehicle you may purchase. Otherwise, car buyers couldn't drive their "new" car home from the dealership after business hours or Saturday or Sunday.
Or, you can buy a truck during business hours and call your insurer and add it. As I think I understand it, you don't need "authority" unless the truck is being "used" for "business". -
1st call your IRP office they can do it online app. once you have a acc. set up with them.
EverLuc Thanks this. -
buy a truck from dealer and park there until you get ur authority, insurance and plates. is that ok if dealer say ok?

I am looking up Indiana IRP and what it takes. They have a 40 page document to sift through. Being it could take 6 weeks for the authority to come, then the registration process with the state, it could be 8-10 weeks before it is all complete and I have stickers and plates to put on the truck. Not sure if a dealer would be good with that or not. I can ask upfront though. I think If I can get a trip permit and limited trip insurance that would be the best deal. Then I can get the truck home and get it ready to roll.
