Not at all.
You don't find any one bragging on the Acerts on this forum. One other thing.... unless you were using very accurate scientific equipment to measure your fuel consumption a simple "fill'er up" and 1.5 gallon difference I'm sure would be with in a +or- situation.
If I did my math right 1.5 gallons difference in 150 miles is .01 mpg difference calculated out to 3000 miles (week's worth) is .2 difference in a week.

I can't 'splain it like Diesel Injection does, but its a stone cold fact. There are some guys with engines set above 850 hp that are getting 6 + mpg.I've never owned one because I've never had enough extra dollars to take a truck to them.I always waste my extra dollars on another junky "project" truck, mules or something else as equally worthless.lol
-
Of course it's not a very accurate measurement,we'd just filled our tanks to very top both times. And at shift end let's say 750 miles difference would be 7.5 gallons.Have to noticed friend always sitting behind me,not tailgating but close to.

Well Im not a gearhead so I dont know all the facts, but in order to make more horsepower, the truck needs to make more power (lol duh)...and in order to do that, it needs to use more fuel. If you take Bobs engine and turn it up from 400 to 800hp (extreme...but work with me), its not going to get better fuel mileage. Saying that you can make more power by using less of something that produces the power works against the laws of physics.
Another thing too is that, the higher HP an engine has, the sooner it seems to need major work such as an inframe and all that down the line. -
Ziggy keep in mind that that 800 HP engine is going to be loafing just about all the time going down the road, where the 400 hp engine is going to be going full governor on even rolling hills.

Guys,
Would it make any difference if I was a truck driver?
This thread is about Volvos and I know a whole lot about than most people think on here. My family has owned 5 engines and I know their reliability and that is why I act like a know it all. Anyone will tell you parts are hard to come by for a Volvo engine for the parts are coming in from Europe. Now put a Cummins ISX and you can have parts ready to be installed within minutes. My question for the colonial freight driver is what is the 670 have in it?

Yes,it would to me because you are working off of hypotheticals and opinions you've gleaned from Volvos site and what you THINK you know about the large companies purchasing agents(can you say CHEAP and TAX WRITE OFF), not from knowledge gained by experience.
Example of what I mean is the exchange between D16 and I.Although we do not share the same opinion on anything including the color of the sky,he actually owns and drives a Volvo so I have to at least respect his responses because he has a little butt time in one and has put his money where his mouth is.
Don't think I don't have respect for you because I do.I think it's great that you are trying to learn about this trade and all about trucks,BUT...You need to do more LISTENING to and ASKING folks who have been there and done that rather than TELLING them what all you know with 0 experience. That makes you look like a windbag kid that is beyond help instead of a eager young man trying to figure it all out. There is a giant difference between the two in my book. -
I didn't want to post but, I have a strong back and a weak mind. I personally would not drive a cab over with a hard on. Volvo owners say they have all of the comforts under the sun. I guess that's what you come to expect in todays trucking. I don't need all of those comforts. I am comfortable in what I've got. I'VE LEARNED LONG AGO, It's not about what you want, It's about wanting what you got. I'm happy. In today world most of you have no idea what "twisting the knob" is or driving just by your pyrometer. You have a pyrometer, just for looks. I know there's a lot of guys who put BIG bucks into their 3406e motors such as injectors and turbos. I know with the old 3406 A & B it wasn't very hard to put the fuel to it. I always like to see the puff of black smoke between gears. You don't see that to often anymore.
I guess in short You can have your Volvo. I hope you can go 200 mph and never crack a gear to pull a hill. I will go slow and look good.

:smt028Very well said Hound....I'm just like you...I like to see a little"contrail" when I gouge on it too. Before the mileage guys 'splain to me "If you can see it,you're wasting it"
I'm aware of that.
-
Well if waste is the issue then I will waste it when I mash the gas as apposed going 50 mph in a parking lot or trying to pull out before your brakes release.
I think us older guys look at things a little different. That's OK with me. I guess the industry has to change and so does the people in it. They will never take me alive! lol
