I've been wondering what kind of money those end dump guys are making around NYC. I see them all the time around here. Some have pretty nice rigs too.
Best way to get into dump trucking?

I think the rates vary for owner operators ,but remember a shiny fancy truck does not always equal a high income. Some guys are addicted to having the shiniest fanciest truck around and spend every dime they have on their truck and every spare second waxing and polishing it.Nothing wrong with that if that's your thing, but don't equate that to big revenue.
I know I talked to some of the union dump trailer drivers from Long Island who were running debri from Hurricane Sandy from Long Island ,the Rockaways,Queens etc. to landfills in PA and they told me their hourly rate was $38 an hour as union company drivers.
As far as non union it varies from $15 hr for a #### job to around $25 hr depending on experience . -
How does an O/O survive on that? I wouldn't even start the engine on my 10 wheeler for that amount. The lowest I'll work for is $80.00 an hour . That's pretty cheap out here. -
where did he say they were owner operators? he's talking about company drivers, owner operators would get a different rate. fwiw, iknew a couple guys who were union owner operators that pulled to job sites in nyc, their rate was well over 100 an hour.
lots of money in the big cities -
Yeah ,I was talking about union company drivers making $38 an hour on Long Island. I think it has to do with prevailing wage and bidding on state and municipal road work. I know a company that makes $100 an hour with single axle day cabs in NYC and $150 an hour after 8 hours. Its specialty trade show work.

Why are you arguing with me for? I was asking the same question!

I bet I know some who would try it for a year or two before they go broke, sell out and go and do something different!
