Hi, I'm shopping for a truck with A solid/reliable engine with the least emissions headaches that I can drive in/out of California. My budget is around 50 to 55k. What kind of truck/engine/transmission/miles, I should be looking at. I'll be pulling referees though. The more I read/search about the subject, the more confused I get. I know that repairs are a fact of life in trucking, but I'm still looking for the least amount of trips to the mechanic. Any recommendations based on life time experience/professional work, will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Reliable truck/engine combo (California emission) to buy.

I was looking at a 2009/2010 international with isx cummins 435 hp, 10 speed around 440000 miles... What do you think?
-
worst years for a cummins, and at 440000 miles its borderline rebuild time, if you find a truck with an isx shoot for 2011 and up for an emission engine.... best bet out there with these new motors is detroit dd15

Thanks, I appreciate you input...

all new motors have issues, its a crap shoot, when you find a truck do your homework well, use the engine serial number do get a detailed history of its service records, no matter what brand you get you may have problems...or get a good one...good luck

What's a good one in your opinion?

I did a ton of research on this last year & settled on a DD15. Best driving smog motor I've ever been in & so far it's been reliable. I just wish I could have gotten it in a Peterbilt!

I agree completely with what Boardhauler says

You can't order it in a Peterbilt , or ever as Detroit Diesel is owned by Freightliner who is owned by Mercedes the parent company who is a direct competitor with Peterbilt , hence the Paccar engine which can be had in a Peterbilt or a Kenworth. Only previous generation 379's had the older style 60 series detroits in them. They truly are a great motor!
