$15 hr is slave wages in so cal. I made $19 hr to run an end dump in orange county in 2003. Guess the housing crunch really hurt the construction indutry as a whole

What do guys think is a fair hourly wage for cement mixer truck drivers in southern ca?
-
Well I had an opportunity to speak with a rep from robertsons, they offered $14 starting hourly wage, 2 weeks paid training and full benefits. What are your thoughts?
I don't like being hasty so I'm taking this weekend to think about it. Ask all of you for your thoughts thanks. -
If you really have no expierience I guess it would be ok for six months. But, then then I would be out. I personally never saw a mixer driver take anything less than $18hr. I really dont understand how contractors can expect to get a decent dump truck company out on the job at $50hr.A new hanson bridger end dump is $52k, a new pete is $160k and a good driver is gonna cost you at least $48k a year. Not to mention fuel ,insurance, and other costs. I know nobody wants to talk about the white elephant in the room but we all know about the cheap immigrant, bottom feeding , rate cutting labor in this business. My family came here from Puerto Rico in the early 40's looking for a better life but we didnt undermine the industry we got into. We wanted the same wage you were paying the white guy because we believed we were just as good. I hate to get off on a rant but, this is ridiculous. You have people trying to run a business competing with people who just want an average paying job with all the debt and responsibility. This is why I got into auto transport and heavy eventully heavy haul. It makes me cry to sit and watch my end dump rot every day
ted williams and Working Class Patriot Thank this. -
Tell me about it! I am a rookie so this I think will be good work until a city jobs opens up in the public works sector, trash truck driver and apply!
I may may ask for at least $15 what do you guys think or ask for more pay an hour?ted williams Thanks this. -
If you no experience in the construction industry you shouldn't push on the wage thing, take the training And learn the basics find your preference in what you like to drive
Im petty sure they have more then mixersted williams Thanks this. -
