Yess, I am a new driver.. I have about 6 montbs recent experience, the last 3 months at werner... and I have 4 months flatbed experience from back in 2009/2010...
Right off the trainers truck I got on a good dedicated route... I am paid .34 cpm plus bonuses... so I end up making .62 to .67cpm... I pick up loads in schuyler ne and take them to tne rail yard in Kansas city KS... wnicn is all drop and hook... I usually get in one round trip and about 3/4 of another.. it is 255 miles one way..
With that run is basically all interstate... both the cold storage I pick up at and the rail yard are just off the interstate and easy in and out... I dont have all the waiting and crap like I did when I was with my trainers and dealng with DCs.. at tbe rail it is just a big automatic thing like an ATM.. I punch in my divers license, get fingerprined, punch in trailer and tru k numbers and stuff like at the fuel fuel pump.. a buck slip is printed which tells me where to drop my trailer and where to pick my mt up at.. rail yard is easy and open.. so it really doesnt take long..
That is pretty mucb what I do... I do usually get a couple other loads.. but they ae usually jast as simple and easy in and out... occasionally I will get a live load or unload.. but not often and so far they have gotten to me and got it do e quickly...
Being on a dedicated it is a lot easier.. you learn how to get I and out qhick, you know where where you are going and know the fraffic for your area.. so you can manage and run your time and miles better... I dont make a lot of stops.. I stop once to fuel the reefer.. I fuel my truck at the end of my day, park, shower, sleep and do it all again..
With the dedicated I am on.. you really have to slack to not get runs in and not make money.
Now.. my location made it easier for me to get on a good dedicated route like this.. I am sure it would be different if I was OTR or maybe even a different account....
I have a friend I met in orientation who is OTR.. and is frustrated, wll deliver a load and then wait to get another load.. she has not be able to make the money I am able to make.. she will get a good load and have good miles for a couple of days.. they be waiting for another load while ber clock ticks away.... I dont have to deal with that.. they keep me running.. she is goi g to get o. A dedicated..Last edited by a moderator: Mar 31, 2014
