Still new. You can keep the 15, rarest / oddest fleet option used. few times and never again. The others without sounding super trucker. 18 is the easiest to learn if ever experienced a 9 speed![]()

If driven correctly the a GOOD Auto get's better mileage BUT if their not GOOD auto's then people compensate by keeping their foot on the floor all day. My company only buys used trucks and I've driven both awesome, and TERRIBLE ones. With our combination of Good Auto's, Crap Auto's (their all Eaton's) and 10sp's. I'd go back to a 10sp over a bad auto any day. I'm a city driver so I do prefer the auto, but if I were on a highway all day I'd rather go back to manual and not worry about it.wyldhorses Thanks this.

I'm a state highway dept employee. Everything is automatic from gravel trucks to the 18 wheelers used to haul equipment around for what it's worth. Which isn't alot lol.x#1 Thanks this.

It's also the easiest to tear up if you don't know what you're doing, experience with a nine speed notwithstanding.Shaggy and Lone Ranger 13 Thank this.

I keep hearing with in the next 10 years all truck will be automatic . For 2 reasons , with the cost of fuel trending upwards and they are more fuel efficient. 2. There is a high demand for drivers , more attractive for someone to join the trucking industry .
wyldhorses Thanks this. -
You know, as much as I'd like to rag on you for being so quick to believe what "they" tell you, what you're saying is pretty feasible. Get a warm body in the seat faster, less 'training' required, you can accommodate the "plug and play" 'drivers' more readily. Now all they need to do is figure out how to design a sealed engine (the way Volvo has sealed driveshafts) and add CTIS to these trucks, then they can really delve deep down into the bottom of the gene pool.
stayinback and wyldhorses Thank this. -
The DOT officer told me some some law is about to go into play where if you test in a automatic your license will only allow you to drive automatics .

Already exists. E Restriction

That's a notion I could get behind. But I'll believe it when I see it.
