turbo fins damaged

    Hi, i have about four fins on the air intake side damaged, is it possible to replace wheel or do i have to replace the whole turbo, thx

    The question is why were they damaged? Without answering that question nobody can help you. Was it due to:

    - Thrust washer damage, whole turbo replacement is required
    - Overspeeding the turbo, turbo should be rebuilt/replaced
    - Foreign objects entering the turbo, it's possible to just replace the wheel

    It's also something that a home mechanic shouldn't do because the turbo needs to be balanced.

    Plastic bag got sucked in, there is no shaft play.

    Ok, how did a plastic bag get sucked into the turbo.. Just curious.
    And if the story involves beer this might be kinda funny

    Wheel cannot be replaced separately. You install a new/reman turbo.

    Is replasing turbo on detroit egr 14 same as in non egr, i have replaced few non egr turbos but never egr, just wondering, thx

    Last time I checked they still sold turbo parts individually if that's the way you want them.

    To the op, a reputable shop should be able to swap in a new wheel for you depending on the turbo, there may be such a case as you need to buy the chra but you will be able to keep your housings.

    Well, new turbo is over 2k so if they could replace wheel i would go that way, also could freightliner replace wheel, i'm in st louis any shops around here who could do this, thx
