Marmonman doesn't have a bad attitude about dodging scales. If you can find a way around them without too many miles out of route then why not.I have dodged scales when I knew I was legal because I just didn't feel like going thru the drill and wasting my time. Many of the DOT are going far beyond just doing their job They nit pick if having a bad day.Just because drivers dodge scales doesn't mean they have a pizz poor attitude.
Dodge them scales supertrucker!

everyone gets a ticket in Cali at one point or another, but....there is a trick to it all, we used to get voluntary inspections on our trucks every time we went through dunsmuir scales, not only did we get to know those in there but most times wouldn't get a fine if we could get it fixed on our own. Ie..(re-adjust brakes, change a bulb,) other issues were just a fix it ticket, and a $10.00 mandatory processing fee.DoneYourWay Thanks this. -
On some jobs, every load is overweight. I did city delivery in Ottawa, IL with a tractor that could have been a 3/4 ton pickup pulling a 27' pup. Problem was the license plate. At least, I did not look out-of-place driving through the alleys behind stores when portable scales were operating on main street to catch the cattle and grain haulers that had to cross the river into downtown. This was for Chippewa Motor Freight.
Under Matlack authority, I hauled fuel oil from Illinois to paper mills in Kalamazoo. Driving through Michigan City and New Buffalo was almost too obvious, but it had to be done per dispatcher's orders.
He also knew what we had to do to deliver hot metal to Harley Davidson Milwaukee every Sunday, or the occasional load of hot metal to a magnesium wheel factory near Howell, MI. I would sweat driving through the small town where the scale master was eating lunch. A crucible of hot metal is so obvious. But our contract called for equipment that could scale a 50,000 lb crucible. We didn't have it, so the boss always gave permission to run overweight if necessary because a hot metal load is difficult to adjust.
One of our Matlack drivers had coffee with an Indiana truck cop and told about the problem. That fink. After that we could expect to be weighed on portables on route to Chrysler Kokomo.Hammer166 Thanks this. -

I've only dodged a scale once in my short career. Going EB on the 401 just before the Putnam super coop, got off at Dorchester Rd (where the disgusting Fifth Wheel TS is) and went through Ingersoll at 4am, lol. Hopped on the 401 a few miles past the scales. I think I was right up against my 14 and still had another 3-4 hours to go. Yeah, I said it. Took my chances that the NB 400 scales in King would be closed/or I wouldn't be inspected, and I was right. Woot. Can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man.
