every day presents its own challenges
tuesday i started the day at 5 am just a 200 mile trip drop/pick up and go home
with another day off
well i had a whole 10 hour break before i was loaded and didnt get home until 1 am
experience and time management only take out the variables you can control
the trouble with humanity is there are other people in itPanhandle flash and krazyhorsechick Thank this. -
Cranky Yankee, is it common to have these days with the short miles.
Was that 200 each way.
For me being a newbie, if I am hired ? .30 per mile x 200 = $60 one way
Not much money
How many miles is average in one week for a solo driver ? -
As mentioned before, I plan to have my wife ride along with me and thought of a few more questions.
1. Does anyone on here have a wife that rides along ? If so would you care to share some helpful hints traveling together, arranging truck and any other tips.
2. If I get my truck and go solo can my wife join me right away ? I know some places want you to be solo for maybe 90 days before you take a rider.
Thanks -
Sadly, I wont be joining Gamma, we have no one to watch kids for that long and they are not old enough for the ride alongs, so can't help you there, but I believe when he looked into it, I think 90 days experience before you can have anyone with you. Not sure, I'm sure someone will correct me if that's wrong
dennisroc Thanks this. -
We don't have kids at home so no problem for us. Maybe you can go sometime if you get a sitter.
I just had a thought, say me and my wife wanted to take one of my grand kids. Can you have more than one rider ?
I know some companies train 2 drivers at a time. One in the sleeper while the trainer and other student are in the seats.
so I wonder how many can be in a truck and still be legal ,
anyone know ? -
Good morning! Today is a big day around here. My oldest daughter is sixteen! And .... before I even had my first cup of coffee this morning, the King pulled into the drive!
I hate to say this ....but there is a possibility of snow and a wintry mix on Sunday for the Denver area and central Nebraska.
ajacks, how did gamma's first night out with a trainer go?
dennisroc, It used to be that TransAm only allowed one rider at a time, I don't know what their policy is now. If you are used to a set amount of money in your paycheck every week it is hard to get used to trucking. Some days you will be tied up all day with a load but get no miles to speak of. It is frustrating ...every time ....because you don't know what tomorrow will bring and all of it has an effect on your bottom line. Many times you will have the miles in but the load doesn't final out until after the cut off day for that week's pay check. You have to plan ahead for those weeks and look at it as an average. You eventually get used to it ...kinda sorta! -
It went great! He seems to have got a great trainer, I'm glad for that as I'm sure he is lol. Hope it stays great! He says this guy seems pretty laid back and told him to go at his own pace. Seem to get along great.
Haven't talked to him since he headed out today (which was expected while training lol), but hope it's going great!
HometimeQueen and dennisroc Thank this.
