Folks rail on and on about predatory lending practices. Credit cards, pay day loans, ARM mortgage deals, etc etc.

How about out lawing stupidity and then we won't need laws against companies that allow stupid people to do stupid things to themselves.

In 03 I went bankrupt. Was it the credit card companies fault???????????? NO it was mine because I signed my signature on the bottom of every credit app I filled out and every time I swiped I signed.

Credit is not the answer to getting to the top of the financial game. Just like we want to say no to cheap freight on this board so should folks just say no to stupidity, and stop getting ourselves in over our heads.

If you sign for an ARM so that you can buy more house than you can afford it is not the mortgage companies fault, it is not the USA gooberment's fault, and it for #### sure is not my fault and not my responsibility to bail stupid folks out. Same with a credit card.

Bobby,Your question was "Are credit card companies the same as a loan shark?" Answer,no. Credit card companies are regulated by both state and federal law, loansharks are not. When you sign an agreement or contract with a credit card company,it is a legal document. It will hold up in court, maybe in your favor but most likely in the credit card companies favor.Remember, you signed the application and agree to the terms.I have used loansharks many years ago. There was no legal contract that I signed, just verbal, and the interest rate charged was insane.I always paid the loanshark back and ontime because their penalties were alot worse than just a rate hike or a blemish on my credit report.I know there are alot of hidden fees when getting a card, but check the fine print before signing.I know it's sounds like legal robbery and yes it proably is but it is up to you to shop around for the best terms.Certain states cap interest rates at lower rate for credit.Do some research,Delaware might be better than say New York.Just because you don't live, say in New york, doesn't mean you can't apply for one in a state that has a smaller cap.New york right now for credit cards is 25% max.Loansharks do serve a purpose.People with no credit history, bad credit or no job history might have to use one but a loansharks rules are alot more painfull than just trying to get legal credit.Cut back, stay out of debt,if possible, good luck.

    You can't outlaw stoopit.

Our jails won't hold our government employees let alone half the country's population.

More seriously, credit isn't really the problem.
It is the improper use of it that gets a lot of people.

Almost every large business entity runs on it.
Almost every government runs on it.
Government gets a pretty good break though.
They get to borrow on #'s of years worth of future income that we cannot.

I'm counting on credit for my retirement.
As we speak, I'm building up credit card limits as high as possible.
When I feel the time is right & that I have enough credit, I'll retire.

I'll start by maxing out all those cards for as much cash & products as I can.
Sell the products I won't need for a cash discount.
Then I'll retire to a nice quiet place where there's palm trees & no one knows me.

    Catch me if you can.
I'll pay you $20 a month on each card, no problem...while I'm rebuilding my credit with you.

How are you going to pull off paying just the minimum? Do you not realize that the interest compounds daily?

i buy nothing on credit. the credit card company has its interest compounded, and adds late fees as well. admit it, it's considered moral, and ethical for a credit card company to take advantage of you, but unethical, and immoral for a regular guy to loan money for a fee. makes no sense to me, kind of like the time this guy, who lives on my block, he's a cop. he was riding down the street, off duty, in plain clothes, on a bicycle. a guy went speeding down the street in his car, my friend, "bill" yelled, "slow down! this is a residential area." the guy in the car stopped, and smacked the ##### out of bill. the charge? assualting a police officer? now if the motorist would have slapped me around, it would have been assualt. i don't get the difference. people are weird in their thinking, actually quite stupid.

Before I hit bottom I had paid more interest than what I filed on. I figured it up one day. It was so depressing it almost made a guy wanna drive off a cliff. I was a 10 yr + disaster looking for an exit.

Filing bankruptcy is not a way to get bailed out. You still have to settle your debt on agreed terms. Then your credit history reflects the BK. Try to buy a house with a recent BK and you'll understand why Bk is the last resort for honest, hard working people like Brick. :yes2557:

Man you got that right!! Sleepless nights before making that hard decision to admit that you are a royal first class loser and then sleepless nights afterwards mind running 110% trying to think if there was some way you could have avoided it and not filed.

The only thing I managed to keep a hold of was my house and land. Lost every thing else, Nice HALF PAID FOR F250 Powerstroke pickup, etc etc.
When I got married in 04 I had a semi truck to drive (my brothers) thats what I took to Wal Mart if I needed any thing. And those trips were few and far between!

Honeymoon was less than 2 full days. I took one week off to help get the wedding set up and honeymoon and then back to work. She rode with me most of the first yr we were married.
