Have seen a recent thread about tarping PAY (to the driver), but I am interested in what to charge a customer for tarping. I am independent, so the rates/accessorial charges are up to me to decide.

This is covering bags-on-pallets loads, approx. 32'L x 4' H, not anything long/tall/difficult to cover. Also, it will be keep-dry only, local and short-haul. For a good long-term customer into something new, so I need to do a reasonable charge. And I don't get a $500 rate for going across town (wish, but not real-world in what I do).

    Any intelligent input is appreciated!

100 tarp fee yes. If your running lds. around across town for less than 500 with a flat that is to low. You can have all day tied up

    Sure.........

A load of whatever on pallets (Figure what 12-18 pallets?) throw your customer a simple $50 acc charge for tarping....I believe its a fair price for an easy tarp and Your customer most likely will agree

And if you a local on this move (Under 50 miles) ...Yeah I wont bug you on the rate.....if you move 1 a day at $400 You aint burning no fuel anyway..

BUT...BUT If this trip is involving more miles...(Lets say 75-125) You best be at $500 or more Because its not only more miles..But your TIME is a factor (which it should be).....A 6 hour day just turned into a 10 hour day.

Appreciate your thoughts, but in what I am doing loading and unloading is usually an hour or less; and I can usually pick the loads I want. Now, Atl traffic may mean 50 miles means 1 hour sometimes and 1.5+ at other times. Call me cheap and stupid, but this customer is not going anywhere near that high for loads that are 10 to 50 miles.

Have not been needing tarping on what I have been doing, this is something new. Am looking at 'combo' tarps, 2-piece fitted to size, made of vinyl top and nylon (?) sides for light weight.

May be as little as 12 pallets, so I may need to overlap; and I am lazy, want lightweight. Bet that will bring comments that I'm in the wrong line of work.

If this is going to be a more regular deal, sounds like a used curtain side or ez roll is in your future

Get one 20' and one 24' 4' drop tarps, they are light enough to throw around easily, and you can have them on and down the road in no time with a little practice, but I agree with Martin, a conestoga would be the preferred way to go as long as it works with the other types of products that you are hauling.

Heck, may even be able to charge more due to everything being covered. Maybe an additional fee on all loads to make it worth while? Even stuff that doesn't "need" to be tarped arrives in better condition with an EZ roll etc trailer.
