I currently run (based outta Ca) a 1996 Intl Cabover with a N-14, single axle, rear ration unknown. I run a 7 car trailer and gross between 53-56k. I avg about 5.7-6.1 mpg. SO when I have to get rid of it in 2016 per the stupid CARB rules, I am leaning toward getting the most fuel efficient tandem axle tractor I can get that meets CARB regulations. I was thinking of either a 387 or a Prostar- Cascadia isn't out of my choices either, but EVERYONE has one. I'd love a nice 379 or 389, but they are a PITA to back having to hang out the open door, plus not very roomy in the cab area, and I want a condo sleeper so I can actually enjoy living in the thing and take my son on the road with me- can't do much of either currently in my flat top cabover.

SO if you guys who are in this like me to MAKE MONEY, can advise me on what works best, I'd appreciate it!

Seems to me as if your requirements for a tandem axle tractor, more interior space, tractor choice based on the observation that 'EVERYONE has one', and taking family on the road with you are working directly against your stated goal to 'MAKE MONEY'.

Clearly define your priorities, highest to lowest, and you'll be able to make a better choice, IMO.

Windsmith- my #1 priority is keeping more of my money. I can make it just like everyone else, but I want a truck to burn less fuel. After running my cureent COE, I don't mind giving up some aerodynamics for more space, i.e.- I'd prefer a wide cab 387, Prostar, Cascadia, T2000 etc over a flashy 379, 660, or FLD.

When I said taking my son with me, it's on a rare occasion maybe in the summer or on school holidays. But when he's not with me, I'd just flip the upper bunk up. I don't want a flat top, especially since I haul cars I need a big roof to cover up the grille of whatever I put on top up front (#1 spot). I want a tandem axle because my current single axle limits me to only a 7 car.

But at the end of the day, anything that gets me 6+ grossing 75-80k will work for me. That's why I'm asking the guys with more varied experience than me for a hand here.

I'm leaning more toward a Cascadia or a Pete 387.
