    Hello everyone, I posted on here about a week ago trying to get back on the road. I don't have much experience (5 months), so it was a little hard trying to figure out how to get back on the road. Well I have two pre-hires right now, May trucking and Watkins Shepard. I have heard a lot of great things about Watkins Shepard, and some good things about May. I am just wondering where I will make the most money and have a decent QOL on the road? I like May because I want to travel all over the country, which doesn't seem like that will happen as much with Watkins Shepard as I live in TN so I think I will be on the eastern runs. But at the end of the day, the size of my paycheck really matters as I am in desperate need of paying of some debts off. What I am looking for is a company that will treat me as a human being, pay me a good paycheck each week (the previous company I worked for I averaged $600-700/week, I would love to be able to surpass that), allow me to see the country (at the very least, if I can request some western runs every now and then I would be happy), not leave me sitting for days waiting on a load, and that I can tolerate staying with for a few years at least (pay and the way they treat me will be the biggest determinate of that for me), I also don't want a company that will micromanage every little thing that I do. I know I may be asking a lot, and I don't have to hit every one of those goals, but I do want to get as close as possible to hitting them. I am 26 and single, so I do not need home time often, and I am doing this because I enjoy it and want to get myself out of debt quickly while enjoying what I am doing and who I am working for. Thanks so much for the help everyone! (BTW, searched everywhere on this forum and done nothing but research, but I want to hear some up to date info and opinions) Thanks again!

    You"ll be able to get west every now and then with watkins.....may will micromanage more from what i have read on here, but watkins is headed that way also. watkins ill treat you right, the work is here and available, you can make some money for sure. but at the end of the day i know nothing about may i havent read on this forum, and even then aside from a few strange issues i have seen, (like may yelling at you for going even 56 in cali, or potentially charging you to idle the truck) i think the two companies are fairly similiar. though i may be biased as i hate refer and have worked for watkins for over a decade.

    good luck.

    I'm guessing a little here, but I think you would make more money with Watkins-Shepard. Which terminal would you work out of with Watkins-Shepard; Berea, KY or Dalton, GA since they're closest to you? Two Watkins-Shepard drivers are "wd40" and "jungledrums" if you want to Private Message them. They run out of Conover, NC and do 48 states.

    @zmpart
    thanks for your reply! I would prefer not to be very micromanaged. Just want to be left alone to do the runs. What do you think a fair average weekly check would be for a first year at W/S? I know pay isn't everything, but with a good company and a good paycheck I'd be happy. Thanks!

    @chinatown
    i will be out of the Dalton, GA terminal, not sure what to expect out of there. Don't think I can PM yet, but I've definitely seen many of their posts here. Thanks!

    I drive for Watkins & Shepard. I'm based out of Cali and drive most states. As a matter of fact, I am posting from Wisconsin. I get good miles and make decent money for a rookie.

    You may want to check out Crete. Their pay/mile is higher than many others.

    @Friz
    thanks for your reply! So how do you like driving for W/S? I think I will mainly be on furniture loads. I don't mind the work as long as I can enjoy the company and make a decent living.

    I've actually wanted to drive for W/S for several years now, I've heard nothing but good things about them. Just have analysis paralysis now because of the May pre-hire haha. But I've really only heard great things about W/S.

    I love driving for W/S. I get good miles, there is no drama, I am not micro managed.
