I just want to tell all that breast cancer is not a woman's disease. In December, 2013, I was diagnosed with male breast cancer and had a right radical mastectomy on the 18th of December. Currently, I am under going chemo therapy to insure that all the cancer in gone.
A little history, 62 year old MALE, who has no history of breast cancer in family till now. I am an owner/operator and own 1/2 of a small trucking company that pulls flat & step freight. I have 3 more chemo treatments and then its back in my Pete and start hauling freight again. Chemo can be purty rough so times, but I am enduring thanks to a strong faith in God and fantastic christian friends who have supported me emotionally and physically for the last several months.
Male breast cancer occurs 1 in a 1000 men, and can be more severe if undetected in men because of the possible spread to the lungs, kidneys, and less fatty breast tissue to invade. Men need to check themselves for lumps, bumps or inverted nipples just like the ladies do!!! If you find something, DO NOT be embarrassed, see a doctor ASAP. I was 2 weeks from the time I saw my personal doc till the day I had my surgery. It went really fast and was quite shocking when surgeon did needle biopsy and calls a couple a days later and says you have breast cancer.
But I don't regret having the surgery or the time off, because I'm on this side of the dirt and have many more people to agitate before I go. If you want more info, I'm available and willing to talk about my experience.
Mr. Dave
