I am sure there are those who would say they love it and yes I have seen it on here. This doesn't turn me off from flatdeck, just turned off from this company. 62 is a deal breaker for me, I prefer being able to do the speed limit.

Sorry Sir. I was referring to mile versus % pay. My bad for not explaining my answer. THE answer is research.research.research. Till you find your niche... (And some people) think driving a Truck is.......Just driving a Truck. Never ending learning...

04/16/14-Finally delivered my load of pipes in baytown texas, and I went to the Humble yard. Thank goodness I got a heads up on the directions to get there (I LOVE YOU GOOGLE EARTH!), otherwise I would of been totally lost. It's off of loop 8, on this small road and if you blink you'll miss it, which I did. I had to make a U-Turn. On the plus side they are practically at Walmart's back door (You can walk to Walmart if you wanted to). The Humble operating center is okay. They have a HE washer and dryer (You can't use regular detergent in the washer). A 60 inch screen Toshiba with 7 leather recliner chairs with cup holders, kitchen area, and a unisex "Shower"/bathroom with two entrances (one leads directly to the shop). I met my dispatcher and everyone seems cool so far. I got one of the mechs at the shop to put in new headlight bulbs. I found out last night driving on 59 that they been in there way too long. After an hour of driving by candle light I called it quits. I'm finally going to get a load that will take me home. It won't be picked up until tomorrow so I did personal hygiene stuff, and washed my clothes.
I forgot to mention is that directions are generated from zip code to zip code, and then your fuel stops. So if you are from a company that gives you door to door directions or has GPS prepare to do a lot of map reading. I'm lucky that I've already been on the roads they sent me through so far. And I have Copilot Truck GPS app on my iPhone, and the old fashioned truck atlas to compare to. Aaaad I advise you to call the customer because GPS can lead you to the middle of no where. Also if you use Google earth, with the street view function you can actually see the picture of the area and compare notes with the customer for directions. I think OTR driver's pay is based on zip code to zip code miles if I remembered correctly. I can see how percentage pay can be of an advantage. But I can also see the cons of it. I really can't say yet if it'll work out for me. I was told that regional drivers average about $900+ a week. When I was van I made $900 checks once in a while. But we all know how recruiters can tell a good story. Either way I'll find out the truth in a few months.
E.W. drivers appears to be very helpful. I don't know if this is normal or they are helpful because I'm female. When it was pouring rain in Arkansas, I was untangling some chain to tie down my pipe stakes and one of them helped me out.

95% of the drivers and O/O I worked with there were really good folks. Management was the problem.

I've had really good luck getting help when I need it, whether it be from another driver, or even the customers. All flat drivers know what it's like to be stuck doing whatever it is you're needing help with. My biggest PITA is folding tarps in the wind. The one and only time I couldn't beg some help, I used my binders to hold the ends down.

04/18/14-I had got a load for mulch for delivery to the home depot in New Braunfels Texas. It was hell just to get the straps on this load. Throwing the straps up there wasn't the problem. Some of the straps would fall in that space in-between the bags of mulch and when that happens they would get stuck and are nearly impossible to get out. If I had known about that I'd set up the straps on top of the mulch before they put it on the flatbed. Lesson learned now. I had got one of the employees to go on top of the load with a cherry picker to fix the straps for me. After that it wasn't too bad. I used about 15 5,000 WIL webbing straps and then two chains and chain binders for the front and back of the load. The Mulching plant was across the street from a residential neighborhood. A kid came over with a handful of chocolate and 2 bottles of gatorade. And told me it was from his mom. I looked across the street and waved at the lady thankfully. It seems that every time I throw that chain around, everyone wants to help! lol. I don't mind the chains as much as those darn straps! Rerolling them takes forever! I know I'm a flatbed noob but is there anything out there that would help wrap webbing straps a bit faster? Anyway I got to the Home Depot. I found out right away that a spread axle step deck isn't going to cut it because of all the seasonal stuff they had every where. After I slid the tandems I was able to drive to the garden area to get unloaded. After that I got the truck washed, parked the truck and trailer behind the H.E.B. and walked five blocks home. I loaded all the stuff I'll needed into my POV (dodge ram) and placed it in the truck. I'm back at work monday. I wonder how long it'll take them to get me a load? At least I'll be home and the truck not far away so I'm not glued to it.
Those potholes are still there. lol

This is the kind I've had for a few years (it"s upside down) but there are other varieties. I've noticed their rare at T.S's and of course overpriced there anyway-any tarp store should be able to help you out with that.. 4800 strap roller.jpg
